Re: Where to Study the Tuba?

This may not be the most reliable place to seek advice on this subject. Since you are in Texas, I would strongly recommend reaching out directly to the many colleges and universities across the state for accurate guidance. Texas All-State recognition is not particularly significant outside of ...

Re: Where to Study the Tuba?

Study with the guy whose students get all the job. I don't remember his name.

Probably referring to Aaron Tindall down in Florida, who has placed so very many students in full-time military band jobs and high profile orchestras, including the LAPO.
I don't talk to him about anything other ...

Re: Venting Piston Valves

Factory-vented valves can be an excellent feature. However, having valves vented by an inexperienced repair person can be risky. If you choose to go that route, make sure you work with someone who has real experience and knows exactly what they are doing. Another option would be to contact Besson ...

Re: B&S Vented Rotors

Hopefully Mr. Tucci can weigh in on this.

My understanding is that B&S did not factory-vent their rotary valves, or at least did not do so consistently. There are technicians, Dana Hofer being one example, who have the equipment and process to vent rotors in a way that closely resembles factory ...

hmm...
I wonder if someone owns an 836.

Clearly I do. I trust you know how to read, and I would imagine you’ve had plenty of time to look through the posts, considering how much time you spend on here.

Re: Eastman Marketing - 836 versus 834

It could just be you. I’ve played on many of these horns (836) and haven’t played a bad one yet. I spent about a year trying many of them before I bought one because of hearing what people say about the pitch issues. Yes they all vary from horn to horn. I’m curious to know what about it stuck ...

Re: Eastman Marketing - 836 versus 834

I was at Dillon's a few months ago and played the 834 and multiple 836s side-by-side. The 836 was the clear winner. I can see why they are so hyped and popular, despite being the sort of tuba-du-jour that everyone likes to rag on these days.

The low register response on the 834 was better, but ...

WTB: Rotor PT6

Hello everyone, I have a student and their parents are interested in purchasing a used B&S Rotor 6. They have a flexible budget and are open to traveling to find the right instrument. If anyone has one available or knows of any leads, I would appreciate you letting me know. Thank you.

Re: FS: Yorkbrunner

I think I bought this horn for less than that like 10 years ago from Kniffen and sold to Gaunt. Great horn, good luck on the price.

I remember that, especially considering the instrument had some prior damage when Tony owned it. A highly regarded repair technician completed substantial work to ...

Re: Selling a Cerveny CC "Piggy"

The seller isn’t Roger Lewis.

The person selling this is a real person who I’ve met on a few occasions. This is a legitimate ad.
