Re: B&S Rotary PT5 C Tuba, Made in GDR: $5500 Or Potential Trade
Good catch, I didn't specify 5th valve! This has a long whole step only, and I've added it to the body of the post.

B&S Rotary PT5 C Tuba, Made in GDR: $5500 Or Potential Trade (SOLD)
I am putting my PT5 up for sale, asking price is $5500. This is a 5 valve, 5/4 ish C tuba, with a long whole step fifth valve The horn is located in suburban Chicago, and I'm not willing to ship. I could also be interested in a trade for the right slightly smaller contrabass tuba (+ or - cash depend...

Re: Marzan 5-valve rotary CC
How do Marzans play? I played a C, 4 valve rotor one for about 45 minutes on it in a practice room some year ago. It had extraordinarily even and fast response up and down, all the way to the extreme low register, like nothing else I'd ever played, which made it really easy to 'steer'. I didn't the...

Re: 10-page early 1970's Miraphone tuba brochure
In addition to being a great conductor, Col. Gabriel was also an incredibly generous man, I remember at a Texas Tech high school band camp in the 2000s, he conducted a transcription of William Tell Overture. The cello solo that opens the piece was placed in the euphonium part, and on the night of th...

Re: Ball in Socket Linkage: Stuck Screw
Thanks to all for the helpful advice! The @bloke higher horsepower screwdriver + back on the instrument + moving it a bit the wrong direction first did the trick.

Ball in Socket Linkage: Stuck Screw
I have a GDR era PT5 with the old style ball in socket rotary linkage. When doing some deffered maintenance (dissembling and repacking of the ball in socket joints with grease) I found that one of the screws that holds the linkage together is stuck. Before I waste Dana Hofer's time with this, does a...

Re: Who owns a British F tuba?
bloke is correct in his memory, the University of Miami owned one of the 4 valve compensating F's back when I was there in the 2000s. I have no idea if it's still owned by the university though. My memory was that the bell was smaller than the 15 inch bell on the 381 Eb I play now, but I didn't own...

Re: B&S CC Tuba 5/4 size , Made in GDR, 5 valves
Cool horn! I'm pretty sure this is a PT5, I have one as well and like it a lot as a big C. I've never seen a gdr PT6, but to be absolutely sure what this is, you'd have to measure the diameter of the bottom or top bow and compare to a known PT5/6, as the PT6 is marginally larger there. You can also ...

Re: Bicycle Trailer
Well @Colby Fahrenbacher, I will have to retract my post: standard sized (I have a Yamaha 321 Eb and a PT-5) tubas won't fit into the Thule branded kid trailers, they're too long. You will definitely need something with larger dimensions, apologies!

Re: Bicycle Trailer
I'd second everything sdloveless said about avoiding the crummy brands. I own a Thule Courier for transporting my kids, and a wouldn't hesitate to put a tuba or two in there. An additional benefit of the admittedly pricey Thule trailers (Chariot and Courier) is that the seating area that folds flat,...

Best Tacet Movements
There are times while on stage, I find myself thinking "it's great to have the best seat in the house." What movements of which pieces make y'all think that? I'm in a (non-professional) orchestra with very strong strings and woodwinds, and at yesterday's rehearsal, got as much enjoyment ou...

Re: Identifying a B&S 5v CC Tuba
I'll second that this looks like a tall PT4. It's a bit narrower than my PT5, which is proportioned like a PT6. The routing of the slides for the valves also don't match my PT5 (see here https://imgur.com/B2tnqJ6 ). Do you own a pair of calipers? To my knowledge, the tall PT4's have cylindrical valv...

Re: Seeking: Opinions on a 1988 B&S 3097 CC Tuba
I've played 1 older 3097 and own a same era but larger B&S Tuba (a PT5, which has some similar tendencies). I personally found the 3097 to be a nice blow, super quick response and very easy to play quietly or loudly. Tone quality to my ears was quite "American," fluffy and pretty. Into...
