Yes, and I don't seem to see dates in the map detail pop-up when you click on a location. Am I missing something?

Looking for my old Mirafone 188
I’m trying to track down a Mirafone 188 I bought new in 1985 from Mirafone when they were in SoCal (hence the spelling with an “f”). I sold it to Ken Sturgeon in the early 90s, and he sold it on consignment at Dillon Music about 20 years ago. Particulars: — Yellow brass with nickel-silver tuning slid ...

Re: Stephen Klein
Bit of tuba trivia for you. Bruce Broughton’s score to Silverado is a legendary entry into Tommy Johnson’s extensive film score history book. Plenty of exposed soloistic tuba parts, and overall an amazing score. But Tommy wasn’t the only one playing on those sessions. If you listen carefully, you can ...

Re: Four valve tuba question
Couple things to ask here what key of tuba? A BBb or a CC can do without a 5th valve a lot easier than an Eb or F do you have a specific work that you are concerned about? Literally I played a 4 valve tuba for decades until I played a piece with a Low D in it, and for that I ordered enough slide ...

Re: Four valve tuba question
it would have to be a long 5th to create the note a half step above the fundamental. The other problem would be your 1-3 combinations and especially 1-2-3 would be sharp Yeah, I figured it'd create some 1-3/1-2-3 intonation issues, plus some sort of +whole step pretzel on the 4th valve slide. As a ...

Four valve tuba question
Random question regarding four valve tubas. Would it be possible/feasible/worth it to extend the fourth valve slide to drop a perfect fifth, instead of the usual perfect fourth? Potential slide pulling issues aside, might this give a fully chromatic scale down to the pedal without false tones? Just ...

Re: Baltimore Brass tuba reviews, 3/29/24
I can't speak to the playability of the Willson 3050RZ for sale, but I can confirm the crappy ergos. I bought a 3050RZ years ago from Dave (one of Paul Kryzwicki's old horns), and it played like a monster. I liked it a lot better than piston versions I'd played. I played another 3050RZ that I didn't ...

Re: Miraphone 190 impressions
I liked the LOUD LM-10 on my 190 CC. I've always called it a C4 on steroids. Mine has the LM-3 rim on it, which has a bit more bite, but the stock rim is great as well. You may need to ping Dave Houser about getting one, or maybe try and find one used on eBay.

Re: Cameron Gates contact info
Cam is a pretty private dude these days so don’t be surprised if you can’t reach him. He DOES pop up from time though, so who knows. I don’t recall him ever having private students, so yeah. He’s easily one of the most unheralded and underrated players of his generation. Listening to him in the USMB ...

A buddy of mine in Vegas would like to get in touch with Cameron Gates for the possibility of taking some private lessons with him. Does anyone have his contact info?

Re: Subcontrabass tubas, or just chubby contrabasses?
I didn't, but if I had to take a guess, I'd say somewhere in the 36" to 42" range.Dave Detwiler wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 6:58 am Interesting - thanks for sharing that. Did you by any chance measure the bell diameter?

If the horn on the left had a center of pitch, I wasn't able to find it:

Re: mouthpieces used with extra-large-bore & tall/conservative-bell-diameter "kaiser" BB♭ tubas
I owned Tommy's 190 CC for a few years. As others have suggested, C4 and N4 worked well on it, but what I liked best was the Loud LM10. I've described it as a C4 on steroids. Mine has the LM3 rim on it, which has a little more bite on the inner edge. Stock LM10 rim is basically an N4. I've liked my ...
