Seriously, this. If these guys can smoke this much crack, then surely your 4 valve CC is worth more. https://www.hornhospital.com/main/produ ... ba-990108/

Re: Mouthpiece Full Circle
Yes. I started on a Conn 15j with a Conn-Helleberg. 5 CC tubas, an F tuba and 2 BBb tubas with at least twice as many mouthpieces later, I own a Conn 15j with a Conn-Helleberg. And actually, someone gave me my current 15j with a newer Helleberg that’s not stamped Conn-Helleberg and I didn’t like it. ...

Re: Rudy 3/4 CC in orchestra examples
Not to hijack your thread (which is, essentially, what I'm doing), but I'd be interested in any recordings of any 3/4 contrabass tubas in an orchestra.

Re: Good microphones for recording
What microphone should I get? I want to record trombone and tuba ensemble music but my phone microphone makes me sound like a 7th grader so I’d like to know what microphone work for those instruments. I’ll also be playing pedal tones on some of the music so I’ll need a mic that can pickup the pedal ...

Re: an example of why I am a skeptic about many things
@bort2.0 The wiggle of the hook is there to allow for its thickness when doing inside measurements. Back about 20 years ago when I had a functioning neck and was actually doing carpentry for a living, we had this guy come along who "fixed" his tape measure so that the hook wouldn't move. We didn't ...

Re: “great false tones”
When I bought the 1240, Matt at Dillon spent some time explaining to me how it was actually pretty good for false tones. I don't really have any personal experience with other horns to make a comparison, but with what little I've tried I can get down to a D. I won't say it's good, but that's ...

I completely expected non-useful information right off the bat... :smilie8:  ...including things such as "which types of bike tires are best for all-terrain riding", etc. The most useful non-useful information I can offer is: don't buy knobby tires. Just ride whatever bike you have with ...

Re: Bottali Eb helicon
I've had clock springs tightened. It seems to be fairly easy to do, but they aren't infinitely adjustable, they go up by notches. So maybe not worth it unless they're unworkably weak. Plays in tune? Those thumbnails aren't coming up for me. Not sure why, they just draw a blank. Those thumbnails are ...

Bottali Eb helicon
I drove down to Baltimore Brass today, intending to look at Eb Sousaphones. Brought home this helicon instead. The valve springs are a bit, uh, relaxed, but it has a neat sound. Could be fun! https://thumbnails-photos.amazon.com/v1/thumbnail/9zYZeFckTBeAmFoXA2CCyA?viewBox=471%2C628&ownerId ...

The Corolla would be cheaper and more reliable, too!bloke wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 12:04 pm Even this is not safe, (ok: in my view). For this money, I believe I'd prefer a same-year under 100K mi. Corolla.

Re: Bicycle Trailer
Has anyone here used a bicycle trailer for hauling a tuba around town? I've started casually looking at a few online, and there are a few that could work, but I wanted to see if there were any preferred set ups. It definitely needs to check a few boxes: - sturdy (pot holes can be rough) - stable ...

What makes a "good" Miraphone 186
I've looked for a thread and couldn't really find one. But if there is one that I've missed, please point me to it. Thanks! I was hoping we could have a comprehensive discussion about what's good, less good, bad, when it comes to the 186. I see references to early 70s being better than some later ...

Re: Conflicted about tuba choice
Smartassery aside, I’m sure the physical nature of your primary method of earning income is the reason why you’re left scratching your head when someone decades younger than you is concerned about carrying about something that’s 29lbs versus 24lbs. You should head over to literally any electric bass ...

Pan-American Eb sousaphones
It's me again, Margaret! Was hoping you fine folks wouldn't mind chiming in with your opinions of Pan American Eb Sousaphones. Baltimore brass has a couple, which I think they've had for a long time, that really aren't very much money at all. And I was thinking about maybe driving down there next ...

My 07 F150 actually has instructions in the owner's manual for disabling those alarms, presumably for situations where someone might be in and out repeatedly. Factory, college campus, farm, etc. My wife's brand new Subaru (5 speed manual, tyvm), on the other hand, is the very definition of a nanny ...

Re: Painful memory from my youth
I had kind of an opposite experience. We had an extracurricular pep/jazz band. I was "the" bassist for a couple years in that group and about half the music was written for string bass. Playing the tuba, I had to learn to read that down an octave. That's also what prompted me to start playing ...

We keep the house at 68F in the winter, low 70s when running the AC. I'd keep it colder, but the wife-type complains. I suffer from a condition called hyperhidrosis. In short, I'm the sweatiest guy in the room. Primarily affects my scalp. Gravity does the rest. The solution is cooler temps, drier ...

Thanks for the feedback, folks. I went ahead and pulled the trigger Sunday night. Haven't really had much time since to look through it, but I'll report back here after I do if anyone's interested.
