Re: Converting video files to MP4 files

Update on the Handbrake video conversion issue. It turns out that MPEG StreamClip and Handbrake don't work well together.....at least on my computer. I was using Handbrake to convert the video from MOV to MP4, and my computer was automatically using MEPG StreamClip to play it back on screen. It was ...

Re: Converting video files to MP4 files

Forgot to mention.... my family uses Macs. The recorder my daughter uses is a Zoom Q8. She then transfers the files to her Mac laptop........ which is top notch. I'm not exactly sure how she's transferring the files, but she then sends it to us at home via imessage, (Messages) for us to convert to M...

Converting video files to MP4 files

I hope I'm posting this in the right place. If not..... sorry!! My daughter is needing to send audition videos in order to apply for orchestra sub lists, extras, etc. We've been using Handbrake to convert them to MP4 files, but the video quality just isn't there. We've experimented with it quite a b...

Removing the dents

This question is for "bloke"..... and/or any other repairmen who might read this. My newly acquired 1930's sousaphone has a broken solder joint at the bottom of the main bow. There are several dents, dings, and scratches all along the outer run of the bugle from the bell housing to the beg...

Removing the tarnish from OLD silver instruments

I previously posted pics of an old silver sousaphone that was given to me. I've started to remove some of the tarnish... a little bit at a time, as my hands haven't completely healed from surgery. Got a few more weeks to go before I can really use them to apply some pressure without severe pain. Any...

Re: Scored a freebie yesterday!!

The bell edge to edge is 25 3/4inches.

The bell collar is 6 1/4 inches.

Seems to be a big boy!!

After a quick internet search .... it appears that it's a 1250 model. Came in either 24 or 26 inch bell. A four valve would be a 1251 model

Re: Scored a freebie yesterday!!

Had some issues with file size, so the pics are not in a logical order. Finally got them down to size and posted. As I stated before, some dents.... nothing major, and some solder joints broken. Took a little silver cleaner cream and shined up the name..... just to see what it would take to clean it...

Scored a freebie yesterday!!

Met with an old friend for lunch yesterday. When we finished, he told me to wait by my truck, as he had something to give me. He drove up to my truck, opened his hatchback, and there was a BBb, H.N. White "King" sousaphone..... complete with the silver neck and silver bits. He gave it to m...

Re: Short notice Bloke!!

Just got back from the concert. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to talk to any of the symphony guys. They were fenced off from the crowd, and by the time we got to the parking area, everyone was in their cars trying to get home. Regarding the great instruction....... that's why we take her the...

Short notice Bloke!!

Heading out to hear the Pittsburgh Symphony at an outdoor venue this evening. A little cool, but otherwise, a great evening in store. Looking forward to it, as this is the first time in quite awhile to hear them in person. My daughter studies french horn with Mark when not at Eastman, as I mentioned...

Re: My community band starts up on Tuesday!

Question???............ The CDC recently announced that the COVID virus does not live on surfaces..... as previously thought. So, if that is true, why is the spit valve/water container rule still in existence? My daughter is at Eastman, and all performers are still required to empty their "wate...

Okay.... I got two for ya'!!!!! I was working on a tractor in my machine shed when I heard an engine coming up the long lane to our house. I walked out of the shed, wiping my hands with a rag as I saw the FedEx truck come up past the house, to the shed area, and turn around. I waved to the driver to...

Re: Bell Covers

Eastman School of Music has required all instrumentalists to cover their instruments and to use bell covers on appropriate instruments. Clarinets, flutes, etc., have a sock of sorts to cover the entire instrument and the player's hands. Brass players use bell covers. My wife made one for my daughter...
