It's a tuba! Sheesh!!!!

I understand that many times instrumentalists are asked questions by people who may not have any idea what that instrument is that's in the case on their back, or in the case that they're carrying. HOWEVER.......... when I ask a tuba player (from junior high school thru grad school) specifically wha...

Re: Best way to record video and audio?

Travisd..... That's how our daughter got started. We have a desktop iMac and a web cam. We bought a Blue mic and put both in the kitchen, as the acoustics are great in there, and kept the iMac in our office..... just for convenience. The recordings were extremely good, and QuickTime was easy to use....

Re: Did they send one to John Williams, too ?

Side light to the discussion......... John Williams eventually became the pianist of choice for Henry Mancini. Williams came to Pittsburgh PA for a concert series where he conducted some of his works with the Pittsburgh Symphony. During the performance, he made note of Mancini being from "just ...

Re: Best way to record video and audio?

The way I understand it is that they don't make things in a "cheaper" way. Same quality in the other models. Just fewer options in them, which makes them less expensive.

Re: Best way to record video and audio?

Depending on what type of audition you are shooting for, you might investigate a little on whether or not they allow audio/video editing. Translation........ many schools/organizations do not allow any type of mixing or manipulating of the audio or video of the pieces required for the audition. They...

I would think the wetsuit glue is a good idea. Also, I'm not sure if tire patch "rubber cement" is stronger than regular rubber cement, but I'd give it try, too..... (the tire patch cement). Can't hurt.

Re: nerd survey

Mine are all gone. Worn out, outgrown, and thrown away long ago by my mother! (Wore them while working on the farm in HS and college.) As a kid, I was also a millionaire right up to the day my mother threw out my baseball card collection! She also threw out my cap, gown, and tassel from my college g...

Mouthpiece!!!..... Update

Awhile back, I'd posted regarding possible mouthpiece selections. Quite by chance, I was able to connect up with a Laskey rep and had the opportunity to test a wide variety of mouthpieces for an extended period of time. Long story made short, I ended up selecting the very first mouthpiece that Scott...

Mine is a 1971, 186 BBb. Is that the vintage you're referring to or are you looking for earlier models?

This is an easy one! First, I'll have to set the stage: Four years ago.......... National Youth Orchestra of the United States. Re: sorely underplayed wind band works

Quick story about Revelli at a state band festival........ Revelli was tearing into the clarinet section..... and mainly the first chair first clarinet, who would years later become a very good friend of mine. He was really ripping into this kid. (And this kid was a phenominal clarinet player.... ev...

Re: sorely underplayed wind band works

May I be so bold as to suggest... a person simply has to look at some old Revelli or Fennel recordings and you'll find a good deal of old stuff that nobody plays anymore.         I saw/heard Revelli conduct his Michigan band when I was in high ...

Re: sorely underplayed wind band works

Geeze! You guys are bringing up titles from my past. Not gonna repost all of the titles, but most of them I played while in high school, and some I conducted as a high school band director. Others, I played in college, and others were played by my students at local, regional, and all-state band fest...

No need to worry on my account. I didn't think you were calling out hearing aid(ed) folks. I was just relating my experiences with hearing aids both in the music world and in everyday life.

Re: playing and hearing aids

Interesting topic..... at least for me. I have hearing aids. Got 'em a little more than a year ago. Am I deaf? No!! Not by a long shot. However, I've lost hearing in some of the upper frequencies, namely female and little kids voice range. If they speak softly, I have a difficult time hearing them. ...

Re: Mouthpieces!!!

A slight change in the direction of the previous topic. After a couple of recent conversations here, with some local brass and tuba players, and a few store people, I remembered some discussions I'd had in the past. This morning, I finally found some notes on a couple of conversations I had with Sco...
