Re: WTB: 3+1 Eb Tuba

I'm selling thus almost perfect condition "York". If you want a "fake BBb", you might want a bigger bell like on this one. Asking price is $6,500. York Preference 3082 EEb 4 valve compensating tuba silver. Barely used. I believe this tuba to be completely dent free (never been dented). You might ...

Re: Schiller Studio Elite (“compensating”) CC tuba thoughts?

I haven't played this model. I have a Schiller euphonium that I bought used. I'm thrilled with it. I tend to believe that there are so many of these euphoniums made and sold that they probably have gotten really good at making them. There are so many different tubas they make, I'm guessing there ...

Re: regardless of monetary value or quantity of instruments, tuba-wise, do you currently own exactly what you wish to ow

I have quite a good 2-tuba set up. My Holton BB-345... I hadn't played it for a few weeks... I'd been playing on the government- owned PBK... kinda been feeling like I lost my tuba mojo... then I played my Holton at a gig and it was like magic. . My Besson 983 is also excellent. I feel more at home ...

Re: Holton 340 stuff

(as I believe I've noticed that - often - the less receiver reverse taper exposed, the more immediate is the response and maybe just a bit more overtone play in the resonance as well). When I was at the Army tuba conference, I tried out a bunch of different mouthpieces for my BB-345. Ended up with ...

Re: ergonomics and 6/4 piston "York"-style C tubas

Unlikely that anyone would ever do it, but I've imagined some different possibilities if people were willing to route a section of the leadpipe inside the bell. Call it a shortcut?

Re: Elephant Room Impressions (Add your own in the replies)

I guess I've never played an old style 2341... there was one there and I loved it. Very responsive.

I had a 3302 in high school before greeting a 5450... so it was fun to try the 3301... amazing tuba.

I also really loved the Prokofiev

Re: Looking for a Euphonium for college

If you buy the Schiller Euphonium from Jim Laabs directly instead of on eBay, you will save some money ($885 plus shipping). I have a compensating Schiller euphonium bought new (not by me- I'm the second owner) in 2022 and it is a bit fancier than the one that have in their advertisment pictures. It ...

Re: "We don't repair *that* brand"

Another repair shop interaction that made me very angry... I have a student with a beautiful condition, intermediate wood Yamaha clarinet (some kind of family hand-me-down, but it doesn't look like it was ever used. 2 of the pads split where it was like the pads were sliced even with the cup. I also ...

I will add: To me, replacing a semi-premium material (mother of pearl) with a non-premium material (epoxy) is not an upgrade

Re: Does anyone know where I can buy custom finger buttons for a Yamaha YCB-822?

When I replaced the plastic inlays on my yamaha buttons (onnmy Holton), I put the buttons in a vise, drilled 2 holes (slowly to avoid melting the plastic and gluing it harder), then inserted the needle nose pliers and twisted until the glue failed. Here is the link to the perfect fit. They probably ...

Re: 3/4 rut

My Holton BB-345... I think plays as (more?) nimbly and in tune than any 3/4 I've ever played. I do pull out the Besson 983 when I'm playing quintet music where most of the music would be very close partials on the BBb to make it more likely that the right notes come out with minimal practicing.
