Tuba Mutes

I was window shopping again and saw that there is tuba mutes for sale. Never heard of them before but what pieces are they used on and why are the used? I am now pretty curious about them but considering Ive never heard of them before, they are probably a pretty niche thing.

Re: RM 6/4 BBb at Baltimore Brass

I played on it for a little bit last year. If I won the lottery that horn would be my first purchase. Absolutely outstanding horn. The shear size is also something to behold. Even larger then the lap sousas many have but was far more nimble then a first glance would give it credit for.

Repair Shop around Philadelphia

I have been having a couple of issues with my bass trombone recently and would like to send my horn to get fixed. I would normally take it up to Dillons to be fixed but I cannot take the time to do so for at least 2 months. What are some places to do so around Philadelphia? Issues being linkage ...

Looking to branch out musically

I have been playing strictly classical and traditional band music for a while now. It has gotten boring and dulled my enthusiasm for practice. I have been wanting to branch out from these styles and see what else is out there but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions on where to start?

Looks like an Eb if I am guessing right. I am extremely tempted but I am cross country.

Re: Can someone give me their experiences with the Mack EU 1150 or Wessex Dolce?

Do you guys see many Jp compensating euphoniums for sale on the used market? No, I haven't found any. Probably a combination of people holding on to their instruments because they work well for them and a lack of penetration into the US market. I would give it 5-10 more years before they can be ...

Re: Can someone give me their experiences with the Mack EU 1150 or Wessex Dolce?

Have you checked out Dave Werden's euphonium web site? Lots of threads on his forum and I believe an article or two on these horns there: http://www.dwerden.com/ I joined the website a couple of days ago. I have read through a lot of different reviews and perspectives and found quite a bit of ...

Re: Can someone give me their experiences with the Mack EU 1150 or Wessex Dolce?

After listening to a lot of demos over the weekend of the different horns, I have narrowed down the horns I would consider to the Wessex Dolce and the JP 274 with a fallback option of a King 2280. Now it's just time to save up money for the future horn, I'll finally be able to complete a few ...

Can someone give me their experiences with the Mack EU 1150 or Wessex Dolce?

I have been saving up for a bit now and soon I should have enough for a euph. Up to now, my experience has been with a King 2280 which has been great for me so far. However, I want to do due diligence and explore the other options on the market. I understand that the Mack and Wessex horns have a ...

Re: Sousaphone Stories - What's Your Favorite Memory?

I have a few that come to mind, a year ago I went to a jazz festival with my high school band. We were doing a NOLA-style piece, no sheet music just feel. I got to play on the sousa instead of my bass trombone for this one. It was the raunchiest, most fun piece I ever played during my time there. I ...

Re: SUPER-ECONO 3-VALVE KING FIX-UP - & RECORDING-TO-UPRIGHT METAMORPHOSIS - FOR A SCHOOL

The bell section has perked my interest. I would be curious to hear how it sounds after the tubas come together. I wonder if it will have that king sound still or it it will take on a more mirafone sound.

Found: Used Bass Trombone

So I'm looking to get a used 2 valve bass, I have budgeted out $2000 for it. I don't have a preference if its dependent or independent or valve type, just that it has the tunings in Bb/F/D(/Gb for independent). Its main use would be in jazz gigs. This would be my first real bass since pre-pandemic ...

Re: overcoming yama-yama men

My high school in junior year was getting an few new instruments and my band director asked if he could have the students try out the possibilities that the district would allow him to choose. I got to try out a brand new YBB-321, King 2341, and Eastman EBB 534. I liked the Eastman and the King over ...

Techs, what would you not touch?

This is a more broad question overall, but I have seen various techs saying that they won't touch certain instruments or brands for any reason what so ever. What brands or instruments are these? I imagine brands like Mendini and other low quality stuff is something you wouldn't touch.

Re: King 1241 Drainage Issues

The Amado Key looks like a promising solution, I'll certainly look at getting that done in the future. I've got the spin down, its just real inconvientant to do do while in the middle of a piece. I could certainly improve the sides response too so emptying the curly Q is quicker. Out of curiosity ...

King 1241 Drainage Issues

My 1241 has drainage issues where the spit collects in hard to access areas of itself, namely the top of the 3rd valve tuning slide Q and the bottom of the 4th tuning slide bow. It can also get spit stuck in the valve casings from time to time. To a lesser extent it happens in the 1st slide. I know ...

Re: possibly today: century-old bottom bow seam repair...

I have loved watching projects like these develop over the years, before I even joined the community online I remember scrolling through these projects and being in aw of what people could do. This looks like it will be a fine tuba when its put back together.
