Re: Dillon Adjustable Gap Receiver
I've not had as much of a chance to play the Rudy lately as I would like to. That being said, I HAVE played around with the AGR to see what I like. It's definitely more of a feel thing. For me, Dave Werden's advice of "2 rotations out from all the way in" seems the right choice for me. I tried ...

Re: now: 8 (water keys)
I like the idea! For me I feel like water keys are too slow or don't dump it all for me. I find myself pulling and dumping slides out of necessity.
Not trying to be silly. This is a legit question/comment. When you press a water key, do you rock the instrument so that water contained anywhere in ...

Re: NOT a brag: What the heck does this mean?
bloke First, take the compliment. It means you are doing "things" right. That's something to be proud of. Second, as an electric bass player, our tone is a combination of "all of the things." It starts with our fingers. The rest of the gear just amplifies that. I've heard plenty of bass players who ...

Re: Canadian Brass
I saw them and got to meet them....err...well Chuck anyway...back in the mid 90s. In the summers of high school, I attended the Usdan Center for Creative and Performing Arts. The Canadian Brass performed and worked with the brass students a couple of years I was there. I miss those days....you have ...

Re: Meinl Weston 2145 Thumb Trigger No-mod Solution?
What I've been trying to express is that a setup like this (with the saddle oriented the other way) is going to define the most comfortable thumb stroke as well as the shortest thumb stroke (shortest: as long as the link is attached directly underneath the bar).
I understand. My Besson 995 has a ...

I owned one for a couple years in college. I could swear I had the lacquer removed from the bell. That was 20+ years ago. Could it have been mine? No idea.

Re: Meinl Weston 2145 Thumb Trigger No-mod Solution?
sorry...didn't see that question.
With near certainty, the threads are M3x.5
Your local hobby shop should have this in stainless steel all-thread, whereby you can cut it to the needed length and (if you manage to move all that stuff yourself) use the all-thread temporarily.
Hey no sweat! Only ...

Re: Meinl Weston 2145 Thumb Trigger No-mod Solution?
Yeah I was noticing that as well. It looks like they learned something, but they didn't learn enough to totally redesign it to shorten the stroke.
If there's room on that '45 model to move the saddle, it's not difficult to lengthen the action rod.
Right, which is why I was asking if you happen ...

Re: Meinl Weston 2145 Thumb Trigger No-mod Solution?
If it's set up just like my 5450, that thumb ring tilt was enough of an alteration to make mine feel okay to me.
The upper joint of my thumb is a little bit longer than an inch, so that worked out.
If somebody has a shorter thumb, they might need a a saddle that is mounted to a valve casing and a ...

Re: Meinl Weston 2145 Thumb Trigger No-mod Solution?
bloke soooooooooo suppose I want to make this a proper fix. It seems like the trigger mechanism can just unsolder from the tube, be moved up an inch or so and resoldered. Of course this means the linkage would need to be augmented/lengthened. I would think I could find some "all-thread" that could ...

Re: Meinl Weston 2145 Thumb Trigger No-mod Solution?
Some possible ideas from 30 minutes on Amazon. Not sure if any of these would give me all of the height I want. Perhaps I can McGruber a reasonable, not 💩 looking compromise that is comfortable.
Alto Sax Thumb Rest. I'd just trim it down to size.

Meinl Weston 2145 Thumb Trigger No-mod Solution?
I recently acquired a Meinl Weston 2145. It's in fantastic shape. I brought it to the local repair person to make it 100%. I discussed my displeasure with the thumb trigger. We moved the thumb ring up about 1/2" and that made a considerable difference in overall comfort. But the thumb trigger was ...

Re: 5-string bass guitar set-up opinions
I'm not into the technical aspects yet nor the specifications, I'm just curious if there are those who use a C string instead of a B string. Don't know that I would bring along calipers to check out spacing but would just judge by feel. I'm accustomed to Jazz Bass string spacing, whatever that is ...

Re: 5-string bass guitar set-up opinions
bloke as someone who owns....1, 2, 3...uhhh...well...let's say several 5 string basses, I'm a fan. In my case, I like having the extra low notes. I owned a 6 string a couple of times, but I never fully clicked with being able to read and play on them. Plus the neck is basically a 2x4.
