Wessex Helicon for trade
I have a Wessex BBb 4 valve Helicon that I would like to trade for a smaller BBb rotary valve tuba, preferably a Cerveny Piggy or the like. If anyone is interested, please PM for further discussion.

Conn Helleberg 120S question
Silly question maybe, especially for as long as I’ve been playing tuba, does the Conn Helleberg 120S tuba mouthpiece have an American shank?

Ophicleides in Michigan?
Southeast Michigan or Northwest Ohio to be exact. I have a friend that recently purchased an early 1800’s Ophicleide. It’s in excellent condition and very playable. He is a reed guy but also plays trumpet quite well. He is hoping to find someone close in the area that may own and have experience pla ...

Re: Brass quintet standards that should be owned by founders
I am guessing that by “founders” you mean the person that forms the quintet? I’ve never heard it phrased that way before. Anyway, I feel any serious quintet library should include:*. The Ewald Quintets. All of them although the 4th quintet never excited me as much as the 1, 2 & 3 but important just t ...

Re: Tuba for quintet
I’ve played a Willson 3400 Eb tuba in quintets for the past 20+ years. Full disclosure. For most of that time it was my only horn. So I also used it for everything. Large and small ensembles. Has served me well and I would highly recommend it. However, given the amount of time that has passed since ...

Re: Tuba for quintet
My DMA ‘fesser’ made me use CC in quintet when I did the Bozza Sonatine and the Arnold. I also did an Ewald quintet lecture recital where I used modern instrumentation of trumpets, trombone, horn, CC tuba compared with brass band instrumentation of the original. Experimenting with both horns, I fel ...

Messina Covers King 2341 Body & Recording Bell Bags
I recently received my new Messina Covers gig bags for a King 2341 recording bell tuba. I had one case made for the body of the horn and one for the bell. David did a wonderful job in the design and construction of the bags. They are made of very durable materials, strong zippers, etc. His “how to” ...

[quote I was wanting a helicon, and a friend pointed out that most people would be disappointed that I don't have a sousaphone. I love my friends but don’t always listen to them. MAW valves in an older King 2341
I was reading a post from July of this year about MAW valves and someone (I believe it was Bloke) mentioned that the MAW valves were designed to fit in the older King 2341’s. I have an early 80’s King. The valves are just fine and I have no problems, concerns or issues with them. But I have been cur ...

Re: Satin Silver York Master
That’s a beauty. The Stearns Collection at the University of Michigan has an original York that looks a lot like that. Stellar condition as well. I checked that out and they have the tuba labeled as a baritone :facepalm2: For reasons I don’t know, it does not show up on their online collection. I’ve ...
