Re: tenor tuba check offs
Agreed. I know some of the more in-demand orchestral players locally really struggling to make ends meet. Low brass players are always the fun hang on a gig. Work in string sections and brass sections. Ain't no fellow bassist saying "let's grab a beer on dinner break." As a matter of fact,...

Janacek Sinfonietta For the future, if you want to feel slightly less lazy, but not have to worry about remembering or typing out the accents, typically a quick google search will make the first hit the proper spelling with the accents, and it becomes a matter of copy/paste. I use this all the time...

Re: Is my 12J REALLY 100 years old?
You know, curious about this again, I found this site: https://www.horn-u-copia.net/serial/Connlist.html Towards the bottom of the list it says this: 1980-1986 numbers are inexact, and may relate only to student level trumpets/cornets ALTHOUGH, if I use that list, it puts my horn to 1984, which make...

Re: Valve jobs
There's a guy in Texas that I've had two horns done with. He's really very inexpensive. It's not Oberloh level, but they're good. The issue is it can take up to a year for the job to get done. 13 months in, and the valves are reportedly done on my Conn, I'm just waiting for them to be shipped now. T...

Re: Synthetic valve oils
Dissolve hard lime from articulating surfaces, clean the ports and elbows which feed into the valve casings, and the clean the tubing which passes through the valves themselves, as well as the bottom caps, and use whatever "valve oil" is on hand. If synthetic is the personal choice, use t...

It's just been the brand I've been with for so long. I wanted to stick with Amazon only because I need to get to $35 for a shipment of stuff. Looks like Monster is a legitimate brand according to Dan Tuba . I heard that the supply chain issues were due to the bottles becoming prohibitively e...

Synthetic valve oils
Hetman closed shop, from what I hear. Looking on Amazon, Yamaha isn't even in stock there. My local stores aren't carrying any synthetic, with the local band store having a cashier insisting that Al Cass is synthetic. There's some other brands of synthetic oils on Amazon, including Bach, as well as ...

Re: Yamaha silent brass tuba mute
I once borrowed a first generation euph mute 20 years ago, but I think my thoughts still stand: Is using headphones vs earbuds with this device better for ear/hearing health? This is more personal preference. Hearing health will deal more with volume than anything else. Personally, I use in-ear moni...

Re: Price check on Willson euphonium deluxe case
As a Kentuckian living in New England, nobody understands me when I say "Louisville" the first time without clearly enunciating. If you're from the area, you know it's a guttural approximation of "Luh-vuhll." If you're not, you can at least get close with "Looey-ville"...

Looks like I should pick up the same basic case. I can pick it up on Amazon for less than $250. It couldn't really have come at a worse time. Had to buy a new concert black suit (and decided it was time to get a suit that's not super cheap), my Conn's overhaul finished after a year, I just bought th...

Re: Eastman EBC834
I first thought the site might mean either EBC836 or 832, but those models are also covered. I wonder if it was a horn that was just never released or something?
The 832 looks to be a 4/4 CC, and the 836 is a 6/4 CC. Maybe the 834 was meant to be a 5/4CC that just never was released?

To be honest, I'd never thought of a euphonium player living in ND of all places!

Near perfect condition. I think there's a scratch in it but that's it I put the horn in a gig bag as soon as I got it, and the case went into storage.

Yeah, I was thinking that.
Also, they're in ND, and I'm in FL. So probably that plus shipping costs.

Price check on Willson euphonium deluxe case
My 2900, which was stolen over a decade ago, was never recovered.
I still have the hard case, and someone's offered to buy it. I have no idea what a decent sale price would be, as I can't find options to purchase one separately.
Anybody have any insight to offer?

Weird. When did Conn stop using "J" for tubas?
You might also check out a 5J, which you can find on the used market in the states for around $2500...I imagine they're around Europe, too.
I assume you mean Spanish Charanga, and not Cuban Charanga? Very cool!
