Re: Wtb silver 4 valve sousaphone $3500ish ish
Over your asking price, but says you can make an offer. I don't know what the going rate for these horns are, but I've noticed the "make an offer" on these sites tends to be a bait-and-switch these days, and most sellers don't really allow you to make an offer far off from their asking pr...

Re: WTB: Gig bag that fits Kanstul 900-4B
So I finally measured it...and this ancient tape measure is done after measuring a tuba:
40.5" height
11" valves to back
19" bell
20" side to side
One is the tears in the current gig bag is exposing the horn now. So it's probably past time to replace it!

Re: 20+ Tuba & Euphonium Jobs ELIMINATED
I feel like this was inevitable. About 15 years ago, some congress members started throwing crosshairs on the military bands as an "example of frivolous government spending." This was a time I really wanted to be in one of the DC bands (and auditioned for the half-dozen opportunities that ...

Re: ' any (actual) Bach cello suite scholars out there?
I was just curious about the Sarabande as a dance, and came across two videos. One was an actual video of the sarabande dance, and the other was about the musical form and its history. Both are really fascinating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjLTTgv5FUQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPJ64_BnE3...

Re: ' any (actual) Bach cello suite scholars out there?
Casals: I could never hope to do what he did (who could?), but really uber-romantic (which was surely the best way to "sell" that music, during the most active years of lifetime). Ma: Less romantic (still quite romantic, but - well... - "toned down"...??) LOL...Of course, I coul...

I'll need to whip out the measuring tape (giggity), but I do know the bell is 20", according to the site.

Re: amazing half-century-old Fender Jazz Bass and Ampeg B-15S tube amp
DUDE. That Fender looks like early 70s. Geddy Lee's Fender is practically identical to this one, which is a '72 Jazz Bass in the exact same color scheme. How old are those Labella 0760M strings?! That Ampeg has some serious mojo in it, too. This is absolutely a steal. If you haven't sold this yet, i...

Re: ' any (actual) Bach cello suite scholars out there?
I don't think that there's a "right" or "wrong" way to piece these together. I've always been taught that they weren't always meant to be performed together. I'm certain you can perform the movements in whichever order you like. Besides, some movements are practically unplayable ...

Re: What model is this euph?
Exactly! I know when I started playing tuba around here 10 years ago, I felt the other guys were kinda scoffing at my equipment, and kept telling me that if I want to play gigs, I need something better. I have something "better" now, but my 12J is such a perfect horn to play in anything th...

WTB: Gig bag that fits Kanstul 900-4B
The Pro-Tec case that came with it is just too far gone. The material is just rotting and can't be saved.
If there are leads for something used, I'd love to know!

Re: What model is this euph?
I wonder how many boutique small trombone mouthpieces are basically exactly like three or four sizes of Bach mouthpieces... maybe with a drill bit run through the throat or something like that. Wouldn't be surprised. I'm actually not much of an equipment junkie...I just know the 6.5 or the 12C aren...

Re: What model is this euph?
Just about to buy a better mouthpiece than a 6.5al to go with it. I like the Wick Ultra SM6U. It comes in the trombone/BBBBaritone/American Baritone horn shank. It is essentially a deeper version of a 6 1/2 AL. That little bit of extra cup depth keeps it from going grainy in the low register, gives...

Re: What model is this euph?
Heh. I realized I stepped on your joke, but I couldn't resist. Cool horn! Hope you get it fixed up; keep us updated. It's currently in very capable hands. He's already caught one or two other things I didn't, especially since it really isn't playable to figure out those issues. Just about to buy a ...

Got that right!
It's why my major was changed to jazz bass studies. A freelance euphonium player isn't a very decent prospect!

Re: What model is this euph?
I actually did a search for "Holton B101," and it brought me here: https://redevelop.drobnakbrass.com/conc8/index.php/features/features-3/holton-euphoniums The only bell-front description is the model 85 on that site, and it, of course, doesn't have a picture. So it may or may not be the m...

Re: What model is this euph?
Looks like a Leonard Falcone model. I had one with the upright bell. Yes, certainly looks like a detachable bell version of the Holton B101 Falcone Model: https://redevelop.drobnakbrass.com/conc8/application/files/1915/7711/6595/13827nmm1.jpg Oh! I don't know why, but I was thinking the Falcone mod...

Re: What model is this euph?
That looks a LOT like one that is recently being played in the brass band here -- four valves, detachable front bell. His appears to have what from a distance look like "tightening screws." He's from the UK and I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet or see it up close. His is lacquer, ...

What model is this euph?
Got this Holton euphonium for a very good price. It's tiny for a euph, but it still sounds like a euph rather than a baritone, so I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Thought this horn would be a fun addition to my polka gigs, and looks very similar to the horn Willi Grafeneder plays in Lechner Buam. ...

Re: How frequent do you see a need for a tuba mute?
I think people who really hate mutes either have tubas that aren't very suited to mutes or have mutes that aren't really suited to their tubas. It's kind of fun to play the tuba with a really good mute that works with a tuba. Thank you! I've been saying that forever Or... They played a stonelined m...
