Re: Willson Silver Plated E♭-Tuba
I'm pretty sure that I picked up a mint 3+1 comp. of one of those - years ago - and sold it. It sounded more like an F (vibrant) than a typical comp. E-flat (fluffy). The tuning was decent (good). 3-valve comp. E-flats are fine for brass band work, weigh less than 4-valve comp's, and are easier to ...

Re: quick question on the HB-2 (rotary) Hirsbrunner CC
Does the HB-2 rotary Hirsbrunner CC exhibit: 1. The challenging tuning characteristics with valves 2+3 engaged 2. The challenge in response around low Bb/A/Ab/G that many examples of the HB-21 (piston, no curlicue mouthpipe) Hirsbrunner CC exhibit? I believe they have less intonation issues compare...

Re: Identify this sousa (helicon?) neck
My Holton Eb helicon has one that looks like that but it about half that size. Same kind of bracing though.

Re: Midnight Miraphone, playing impressions
Playing the huge Miraphone B-flat so much lately, when I play anything else I have to immediately throttle back.. "less bloke, LESS !!!" The F tuba feels like a toy, at first... That’s one of the things I miss about owning my big CC. Made my large Eb feel like a small tuba. Sent from my i...

Re: EEb King Sousaphone $1500.
This 3 valve Eb sousaphone plays well, packs well and has nice tone and projection. Finish has small dings and blemishes throughout. The valves work fine. I'll include a mouthpiece for an extra $50. Wondering what size bell it has. Most had 24 inch but some had 22. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Shipping to Germany question
Good luck!
I was contemplating trying to buy an original case for my vintage King sousaphone but it’s in England. I had the bright idea to try to fly standby there and bring it back with me as luggage and hope it doesn’t get smashed.

Re: My New HB2P
I had one of those cases with my Willson 3050. I think I bought that one from Bloke. I wish I had purchased one for my Willson Eb. I believe they were made in South America. Wonderful cases. A shame they are NLA.

Congrats! I’ve always liked the look of that model. I’ve only played one of the rotor ones with the composite valves. Still played pretty nice.

Plans changed no longer needed.
Raising the pitch from low to modern with a already short tuning slide was the idea behind converting to a helicon but no longer an issue. Keeping it a sousaphone now.

Re: King 1261 Eb sousaphone mod to helicon
After taking some more accurate measurements looks like I will need to look further for a Bell for this project. So if anyone has a vintage King Eb monster bell in silver thats available I will be looking for one in the future. Someone wiser than me "aka Bloke" suggested using a vintage Ki...

Re: Midnight Miraphone, playing impressions
Id be interested to hear about a York Master Eb? Ive never heard of such tuba. Glad you got a new horn! Contact Norm Epley. The photos did not clearly show the bell engraving, I'm just going by what he said it is. I'd not heard of an Eb Master either, but it was smaller than the Monster for sure an...

Good deal or not. 400 not 499 including tax w case and mouthpiece. Played bbflat into college 30 yrs ago. Just want to putter around and probably more with melody. Don't believe i will even play with others. Don't remember fingerings or really much but was very handy playing by ear. Always sat seco...

Re: Roger Bobo in Urgent Care
I hope he will be okay. It is an interesting choice to me, for an injured 84 year old American man to return to a relatively small city in southern Mexico... But we all make our own choices. Praying for Roger! Leaving the US for some can be less expensive in retirement at least until you need quali...

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230111/73f332e98b1f7d958b82da93d46e6149.jpg I kind of hate to scrap out a playable horn like this but just wondering if this bell would be long enough. I thought of this because the sousaphone still plays about 20 cents flat with newly overhauled valves. My origin...

Re: King 1261 Eb sousaphone mod to helicon
There are probably a few different bells that would work. If you waved enough money around here, there might be someone who has one of those great big 80 - 90 year old King or Cleveland bells that they might offer you for sale. By the way I don't have one, except one that's been cut down too short ...

King 1261 Eb low pitch solved keeping it stock.
I seem to remember possibly on the old forum there was a picture or thread about someone who had one of these full circle king Eb sousaphones they converted to a helicon. Anyone remember and or have pictures or info on this?

I don’t have the link but on the WWBW site the description on this tuba says you’ve reached the end of the rainbow you’ll never be back here except to buy valve oil. Also it says the instrument is pitched to 443hz. I always thought they were supposed to be 440. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 44...
