Re: tablets for gigs
Show us your Victrola and 72rpm records! :smilie2: fine... :eyes: ...but you obviously aren't up to speed on this new-era technology, as the proper rpms are 78. https://i.imgur.com/k8yUAll.jpg https://i.imgur.com/c9YW2LD.jpg https://i.imgur.com/LRMntnq.jpg Vinyl has serious aural appeal… another th...

Re: tablets for gigs
I've got friends who use these, and I completely understand the technology. I see what they can do, I understand that they can be written on (as if pencil markings), and that pages can be forwarded and reversed with a foot pedal - and all that stuff. Of course, a large percentage of the reason that...

Re: AZ FB: King 1235 Eb
From TubeNet http://forums.chisham.com/viewtopic.php?t=39867 I’m very interested in this horn. It’s in great condition at a great price, but… Bob Kolada “I've probably done more ‘serious’ playing on an old, cheap Eb tuba than anyone else on this board. That said, absolutely, comp...

Re: Midnight Miraphone, pics added
Id be interested to hear about a York Master Eb? Ive never heard of such tuba. Glad you got a new horn! Contact Norm Epley. The photos did not clearly show the bell engraving, I'm just going by what he said it is. I'd not heard of an Eb Master either, but it was smaller than the Monster for sure an...

Re: Musings On Learning E♭ Tuba
I completely agree with you. I never intended to only use Eb tuba for everything and my Willson was purchased as a bass tuba for when I was not using a 5/4 cc. I’ve played next to one of the top brass band tubists on Eb and he played circles around me with his 3+1 Besson. I was only speaking to a av...

Re: Musings On Learning E♭ Tuba
This guy has a four valve non-comp Eb and has used it for several of his videos: (youtubes not included ) I’d settle for playing that well and for what he can play … The lowest note I heard in either of these was C below the staff. Not even into compensating / 4th valve territory. in the duet, he w...

Re: MSP TubaChristmas
I had my Holton Eb helicon there. I was the only helicon this year. I got sandwiched between the 12 U of Minnesota sousaphone squad. I spent the entire time trying not to play directly into the ear of the guy next to me. Not much can be done to direct the angle of a helicon bell. Was the first time...

Re: Musings On Learning E♭ Tuba
IMHO, with Eb tubas, 3+1 Eb is where it's at. There are others that are fine, but give 3+1 a shot. If you can deal with a 3+1 euphonium, you can certainly deal with a 3+1 Eb tuba. THIS ↑ The top-action (and bell-front, for that matter) haters might (??) benefit from considering "getting over i...

Re: MSP TubaChristmas
I think his name is Brian the guy who sponsored the Oystein visit a few years ago. I also can’t remember his name but he was there in the middle. Looked like he brought his Wessex bubbie this time. I wanted to talk more to the guy with that beautiful York but didn’t get the chance. He sounded pretty...

Re: Custom Music, Inc.
I did buy from them a long time ago when Fred still owned it. He formerly had a pawn shop and he ran custom music the same way. He had two tuba professionals at the time. They were ok to talk to and somewhat helpful. The best employee they ever had was their repair guy who they fired after 30 years ...

Musings On Learning E♭ Tuba
I bought a Willson 3400 as a bass tuba back in 2000. I played CC as my main instrument. I liked the idea of a vintage sousaphone or helicon and they are easy to find in Eb. Due to life changes I ended up downsizing and decided to sell my CC and keep the Eb. I don’t regret it but depending on how muc...

Re: storage stands
I’ve have the ones from string swing which primarily makes wall mount guitar stands. They make one which will hold a tuba or sousaphone. I use them for my helicon and sousaphone but not my willson eb.

Re: weird history with the Organ Symphony
The International Staff band of the salvation army had an arrangement where the band played all parts including the organ. Sounded like it would be much more fun.

Re: Large Eb tubas -- front action, upright bell
The 5th valve on my Eb is of course the flat whole step; on my BBb it's just a kicker, essentially a flat 0 step valve. I think I like the flat 0 step better, and per calculation it does look very close, except that it can't reach the last note - the E on Eb, that no one buys an Eb tuba for. That's...

Re: Bort's Rudy Meinl 5/4 BBb (completed!)
It has arrived at the freight company. I'm waiting for the phone call to pick it up. I'll go anytime day or night. But at this point, I'm guessing it's not until Monday morning. :gaah: But also, not like I would have been able to drive down to Iowa before Monday anyway. :wall: :tuba: I've driven th...

Re: Mnozil brass on tour NOW
I am so thankful for this post! We are on a long road trip and fate had it that our first overnight stay of the trip was Kansas City on the same night they are playing. We were all tired from driving almost 7 hours that day but I had to go. They were wonderful. The second day I was able to meet and ...
