Unless signals were crossed, I believe @JRaymo is showing up today with his family) to pick up an instrument that he bought from @Dan Tuba whereby I only served as an a intermediary/temporary storage facility/facilitator... ...but there's YET ANOTHER who I'll have the privilege of meeting in-person...

Re: playing stand... your recommendations

Every time this thread gets bumped, I’m reminded that I have a couple of stands here that need to disappear. To me, it’s not worth the trouble of boxing them up and shipping them to someone, but if someone comes by here to have repairs done - and wants either one of these things - I can price them ...

Re: Be prepared for several paradigms of nature to possibly suddenly change.

Well dang that sounds really nice, I wish we had more time to spend with you too. I planned a whirlwind road trip and will also have to make it to Louisville ky on our way to Indy. Hopefully we can spend enough time to enjoy most of that. We will have to come down again when my big project is finish...

Re: Be prepared for several paradigms of nature to possibly suddenly change.

Sounds like a great time. Wish I could have been there to meet him and family. Might have been crowded with our little family in town and our crabby teenager. I will have to plan a trip to texas in the future after this trip.

Re: Rotary Willson 3040 at Dillon Music

I always wondered why they didn't make this model a 5 valve. There are a lot more models on the willson euro site but they don't appear on the US site. I am not sure they even sell the 3100 here anymore.

Re: playing stand... your recommendations

I have the DEG one but it has broken. I had to use a radiator style clamp to keep it at the height I want. I think BBC used to have their own which was supposed to be really good. I don't know if they still sell them.

Re: Large Eb tubas -- front action, upright bell

Anything E-flat that's 5-valve non-compensating is probably going to define a frantic #4 slide pull every time "low F" (which appears in written tuba music quite often) appears. Even quite a few of the 4-valve compensating E-flats feature compensating #3 slides which are inadequately shor...

^ I like Dos Panchos bakery down in that neighborhood. Legit Mexican style, grab your tray and tongs. Super cheap, and authentic. Get ready for sugar..:) What's the name of the grocery?! El Burrito Mercado. They have the bakery items in there as well. There is a food truck they take downtown I gues...

Re: Martin sousaphone $3,500 Cottage Grove MN

Yeah, I'm sure there aren't a lot of banda folks in the land where polka is king, I'm just saying it may have been used for that at some point in its life before. If not, it just happens to sport a similar style of bling as a lot of those horns tend do. Having owned both the larger mammoth variant ...

Re: Martin sousaphone $3,500 Cottage Grove MN

Def not a banda hotspot. Looks like someone just had parts of it gold plated. I am not familiar with Martin Sousaphones. Looks fairly small in size. I was bored one day and looked up some videos of the banda sousaphone players. Seems like a lot of them use a much longer neck. Maybe since most of the...

Re: Holton 111 Eb Sousaphone Neck

I have a holton Eb Helicon which has the original neck and one tuning bit. I was able to get the second bit from Lee Stofer. I am not familiar with the model 111 but I am wondering if its like the older Holton sousaphone which are very small compared to other brand sousaphones. The neck on my helico...

Something in Key of F with rotary valves. I am not up on all the hot models from JinBao so I won't be able to guess which one.

FWIW I have owned a couple Laskey MPs,

The stainless version Bloke is referring to IMO are better in every way. The many different rim and shank options make it much more versatile. The extra cost is well worth it.

Re: Helleberg-like smaller mouthpieces

This is not a budget mouthpiece, but my Sellmansberger “Imperial” modular stainless steel mouthpiece is one of the shallower of all of the funnel style mouthpiece choices. Lots of choices of rims and shank sizes… Ill second the Imperial. Lots of rim choices and a really great mouthpiece. My persona...

Re: Helleberg-like smaller mouthpieces

Laskey had a nice one that was more of an F tuba size in the Helleberg style. I think it was the 30F but not sure if that’s the correct number.

Re: Please school- mouthpieces and high range

I’ve found the Pares scales a good source for practice. The brass gym book by Patrick Sheridan and Sam Pilafian. There are these bugle studies which would be really helpful. I stopped playing when I started a family and I’m still slowly getting back. Those booked helped me. Regarding mouthpieces I d...

Re: Glenn Cronkhite cases sold on Ebay?

Going to the Cronkhite website, they have a 20% off coupon code right now... For a Cerveny 681 (not sure how that compares to the 683), after shipping and tax, I see a price of $613.31. I'd consider going straight through them first, before eBay. A year or two ago, contacting Cronkhite was really t...
