Recommendation on switch from a 186ish to a 188ish tuba
As some of you know, I recently acquired a Mack 410 CC tuba (the 186ish tuba). I'm enjoy the horn and I think I can be quite happy with it for some time. However, maybe I've spent too much time reading about bort's endless transactions, because I can't help thinking about what horn I'd get if I deci...

LefreQue
Has anyone tried this tuning/performance aid on tuba. A little pricey for
a small piece of metal and a couple of hair bands, but does it really work?

Re: Cerveny Tubas
I forgot that when I emailed Cerveny at 3AM, it was already time for work in Europe...Here's the response I got from Petr Fridrich of the Sales/Dispatch Dept., which he requested I post here: <<Hi Roy You can buy Cerveny tuba in USA. The main problem for dealership in USA was bankrupcy of musician f...

Re: Cerveny Tubas
I see websites in Europe offering Cerveny tubas and there is a company website which gave links for email, so I emailed one of the principals listed and we'll see what they say. If I remember right, there was some consolidation some time back, but not a closure and Amati still makes Cerveny horns......

Mouthpiece selection method
I am a 74 y/o newbie on tuba...I have about 9 mouthpieces, from a small Yamaha 65 thru a Bobo Symphonic to some 33mm deep bowls. I find I can play on all of these and, aside from some difference in tone on the deeper pieces, I don't see a lot of difference in how I perform on these. I haven't used a...

Re: Historical Instrument Stuff
It was easier to find than I thought. It was a 2010 dissertation at the University of North Texas, by Alexander Costantino: The Cimbasso and Tuba in the Operatic Works of Giuseppe Verdi: A Pedagogical and Aesthetic Comparison You can pull this up on line and even download and read the pdf. I read it...

Re: Tubachristmas music
I tried to order from the J W Pepper site, but they state that they are out of stock and do not plan to order more. I'll call tomorrow to see if I can get the music from the tubachristmas website in time to actually practice it some. $31.00 seems a heavy hit for stuff you play once a year... :facepa...

Tubachristmas music
Is "Carols for a Merry TubaChristmas" from jwpepper (https://www.jwpepper.com/Carols-for-a-M ... 11720.item) the music I need for TubaChristmas? I'm hoping to go to the one in Harriman, TN (12/4) and maybe the later one in Kingsport, TN (12/20).

Why is there no spooky Hallowe'en music for tuba solo?
Tuba players need all the recognition they can get...Tuba Christmas is great and Tubby the Tuba and the Grouchy Bear thing, but is seems to me that Hallowe'en would be a great time for bands and orchestras to break out a piece with a spooky solo for tuba...are there any such pieces? Do any orchestra...

Do you have a receiver gap on your 410?
Hello Learned Musicians All, I was wondering whether to do anything about the receiver gap on my 410 and went to measure it...it looks like my horn has no gap, or maybe a very slight reverse gap...do other 410 owners have a gap? IDK what no gap means except maybe wide slots and fuggedaboudit... -roy...

Re: Buying a seat on an airplane for your tuba
I would tend to endorse the "get someone to drive it" option, but one of the last times this came up people brought up all kinds of "what if's" and basically said that if you drove the tuba and were in an accident or someone stole it out of your motel room, you would be liable fo...
