FOR SALE: BRUCKNER 291 IN GOLD BRASS
Hello! Up for sale is a Miraphone 291 Bruckner in Gold Brass purchased 3 years ago. I am the second owner. The intonation on this tuba is good with an absolute killer low register. Rotors are quick and in my opinion are the best in CC tubas. My taste has changed to more of a york style piston CC… I w ...

Needing a new director for a Brassband in Western NC
Hey All!
Smokey Mountain Brassbands director will be leaving, and I was wondering if any of you know of anyone in the Western North Carolina area that would be interested in working/ organizing with the group?
Thanks

Assessing when to take the day off
I played ALOT yesterday and noticed that my face still felt “warmed up” when I woke up this morning. Certainly has me thinking that maybe I should have a lighter day or take the day off.
I’m curious how all of you decide to take a day off or have a lighter day from playing?

Re: "I'm getting older, and looking for a smaller tuba, but I still want four valves"
I do a job where I walk about 10 miles a day and move 75,000lbs worth of weight by hand in a timely manner. Now at 34 I sometimes feel like I’m at the end of this sort of labor BUT THEN!!!! I do the exercises a physical therapist prescribed me and magically that pain in my lower back, mid back, ...

Re: Elephant Room Walk through video
Carol Jantsch gave a masterclass where a student played Hungarian march…
That pretty much replaced the ride in the Elephant room.

Re: Elephant Room Impressions (Add your own in the replies)
The elephant room had some really fine instruments. MRP Gold brass Bruckner Miraphone 188 Norwegian Star These were the ones that I played that I thought were great. The Wessex Gnagey is a really fine horn. I’m really hoping to purchase one within the year. The Wessex prototype Eb was also a treat t ...

Re: Buffet Tuba Showcase Event
4197 (PT20) - Forgettable. Why would you buy this over a 6P for only $2K less? It was fine. Pitch was okay, low register was... Meh. Why is this still being made? Only a 2k difference between a PT-20 and 6 is straight up silly. Real shame because I use to LOVE these tubas for the sound, size and ...

Interesting finding with polka tuba sound
So I play on a Bruckner (still love it) with a Mike Finn 3H and have found my sound to be too diffuse for that kind of full yet percussive like sound I’ve been listening to with blasmusik. So I’ve been experimenting with a Laskey 30C just for fun thinking that a shallow cup mouthpiece would be stu ...

Re: Polka tips (for me, I have none to give!)
Thank you all for your responses! I have listened to Doc’s polka repository and some of his blasmusik playlist collection YouTube (real change of pace from Metallica/Lord Huron etc…). Really really talented players in this genre that I was completely aware of. That include Doc! I can’t help but notic ...

Polka tips (for me, I have none to give!)
Hello all!
Gonna be playing with a group soon. No idea of there a lead chart, music or if they play by ear, so I’ve just been playing with recordings to try and develop my ear.
Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Need to buy a tuba mute
Hey All!
I have a Bruckner 291 and need a mute that fits it for a gig.
Budget is 2-300 dollars.
Any of you know what fits this tuba? The internet searches haven’t been very helpful

Question about 4 valve compensating tubas
Are they fully chromatic? I’ve been curious about a 5 valve versus a 4 valve for solos, quintet and orchestra. Looking for an all around bass horn.

Re: Stopped by Baltimore Brass Company
Was there fairly recently too. I liked the Getzen and the tubby Eb tuba funnily enough.
I still think about that Rudy F. Closest thing to a B&S symfonie… in that I had a hard time putting it down. No tuner in sight for me but my god the sound and feel of the instrument.
