Re: Raiders

My Sax tech does the repair work for all of the schools around me. He had to buy a large van to carry it all. So his lovely wife stops at my house when I have a need for his expert touch. It is nice to not have to run to his shop.

Re: Learn to play the bass guitar.

First I agree with Bloke.

Second, I have the hottest upright bass in town. Somebody leaned it against a wall with a Heater in it. It caught fire. There is charcoal around the four inch long hole burn into the back. I got it CHEAP! I got it stabilized and put new strings on it and it plays great. I ...

Re: Quality BBb Tubas

Where in western Washington? It's a large place. Going to college? Lots of good advice posted above if you are. You have had some bad experience with pistons, but they must be good or nobody would buy them. And you see very few rotary trumpets and baritones. I have two Marzan slanted valve tubas ...

Re: This darn strap and my 981.

If you're asking about pictures of my stand up stand, I have never figured out how to post a picture on this sight. But it is very simple to make. Take the bottom of the stand to your local lumber store. Find the wooden dowels section. They come in four foot lengths of various diameters from 1/4 ...

Re: This darn strap and my 981.

About the stationary stand for standing. Weather you are converting a tuba stand or a cheap drum throne, the riser, be it wood or metal can be used at two or more different heights. The shortest being the full lenght of the riser dropped to bottom of the base, with some sort of movable or stationary ...

Re: This darn strap and my 981.

I use a modified round drum throne for my stand up events, if I don't have to move around. Just replace the metal riser with the correct size dowel cut to fit your height requirements. I am too old for marching any more.

As seen on TV just before TubaChristmas each year.

Re: Mirafone fantasy

I too had the Mirafone fantasy as about the same time. Astoria HS bought one the year after I graduated in '69. 30 years later, when I could start buying my own toys, I first got an Amati copy. Then a Mirafone. Now I have a Marzan and the other two are gone. I only have so much room, and the Marzan ...

New man in the Portland OR area.

As posted before Rosecity Music is now open. Andy is still in his house. Lots of new tech toys in the garage, lots of playing toys in his front room. His wife has got to be a gem. I took my Marzan BBb slant rotor to him for some beautification as it had a lot of ugly green grime on the bell rim and ...

Re: Where are you playing on Mardi Gras?

A fifteen amp fuse is just too small for a compressor. You need at least a twenty amp to handle the starting current. A motor is a dead short until it starts turning. Very high starting currents. Heavy extension cord totally laid out if used. A wound up cord is a choke and will slow the starting of ...

Re: New to using a stand and my upper back HURTS!

I am the short guy. I love my stands. They allow the tuba to come to me. But I sit on the front of the chair, back strait, feet flat on the floor. One leg of the tripod stand is between my feet and under the chair. My fat belly touches the tuba. If you sit too far back, the stand cannot get close ...

The only way to tell is to test. I took my Marzan BBb slant rotor over to the gentleman for a beauty treatment. Time will tell.

Re: Rose City Instruments - Sierman Retailer

I talked to the Gentleman today. The link in the above post gives you all of the info to communicate with him. His shop is in his home and setting and appointment with him would be best. I going to take him a tuba that needs cleaning. The shop I normally use has a long line to wait in. I hope to get ...

Re: Judy Garland Show + "Zing" - recording bass

I had a set if Reader Digest classical records that I would play on my little hifi that sat under the head of my bed. I would turn the stack over each night as I went to bed. The radio was set to C&W by my mom. Today as I am trying to play with other people, I haft to learn a lot of new to me music ...

Do you love playing her when it is just you and her alone? Does she make you feel better when you finish? Multiple human lovers are frown upon where I live. Re: Making your own mouthpiece

Time! For you youngers, there seems to be lots. But at just shy of 75 and with my friends dying all around me, spending time let alone money on building mouthpieces is not for me. But I do understand as my wife sews, and it makes her happy. But I need to spend my dwindling time making music, which ...
