Re: Altieri
A plus one for the Miraphone bags. Well padded and pretty robust as gig bags go… you need to do a bit of research to get the right sized bag if it’s for a non Miraphone horn though

Re: Who owns a British F tuba?
Can I add another +1 for Cliff Bevans book "The Tuba Family", now with a second edition available. If you are in any way a tuba person then you absolutely need to have a copy though I do note that Abebooks are a tad steep; https://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/SearchResults?an=clifford%20bevan&tn=tuba ...

Re: Question about the Geneva Cardinal a flat tuba Vs Besson Prestige
Kraslice according to their website - I tried a Geneva EEb a few months ago at Hayes Music (UK) whilst I was getting my Meinl Weston serviced. I thought it was pretty decent and at least as good, if not better, than some of the Sovereigns I've played. Quite easy upper register and not overly stuffy ...

Re: WTB: Besson 983 gig bag
I've a Meinl Weston 2040/5 that has the same dimensions as a 983 and it fits a Miraphone 170103 bag like a glove. Good level of protection (for a bag...) and pretty robust....so far....

Travels with my Tuba - Jim Anderson book
Hi just saw and subsequently spent a pleasant few hours reading this, available as a kindle download from Amazon; https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09C3YG87T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_d_asin_title_o02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 "A career in music with that most cumbersome of brass instruments, the tuba: Jim Anderson ...

Re: Can someone give me their experiences with the Mack EU 1150 or Wessex Dolce?
+1 for the Dolce - I use it as n occasional 2nd/ 3rd instrument for some brass band and occasional French orchestral stuffIt seems to work OK with a Roger Bobo tenor tuba mouthpiece so theres not a big drama from switching from my EEb

Re: Recommendations for a Tuba Stand?
Ok - these stands are great for resting the tuba (the K&M’s work well) when not playing but what about a decent stand/ rest for playing from a standing position? Straps and harnesses are fine for marching etc but what about standing stationary as some 5tets do?

Re: British Eighth March - Zo Elliott
It's just like a LImey to take something exciting then manage to put an audience to sleep with it. :smilie2: Really?? a) it's a march being played by a military band at marching pace and b), as one of the token Brits here, I fully appreciate banter but would take some exception to stereotyping ...

Re: British Eighth March - Zo Elliott
I don't know if that trend continues, but it seems many modern band directors poo poo marches in general. Maybe they could read the scores and see how every aspect of playing an instrument can be taught through marches, particularly Sousa marches. Maybe they should hearken to the words of Frederick ...

Re: British Eighth March - Zo Elliott
From the perspective of the British Army (I'm a reservist Nursing Officer but have moonlighted in some bands...), both tempi are a bit slow! Marches are there to march to - the British Army (apart from the Light Infantry types), recognise a slow march at 60 bpm and a quick march at 120 bpm. Take a ...

Re: What Do Tubists Use In Different Countries?
What is the Eb tuba of choice for most players? I'd assume a comp. Eb, Fletcher set that trend, and on Instagram I've seen plenty of people in England playing them. That’s my guess, but since @Ricardo is here, maybe he can give us popular brands and models. Doc (assuming it’s the typical Eb comp exa ...

Re: What is the Best EEb?
I spent a day with Mark Carter (aka Mr Tuba) at his shop in South Wales a couple of years ago and went through all his stock of larger EEbs including an Alexander, a Norwegian Star and Starlight, a Mirafone Ambassador and a Meinl Weston 2040 5 valve...after playing a Willson 17” 3+1 EEb for a couple ...

Re: What Do Tubists Use In Different Countries?
“George Wall was pictured in the 70’splaying an Alexander 164.” I was fortunate to be taught by George during the 1980’s when he was playing at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Due to the way the pit was set up he would routinely use Mirafone F and CCs as needed in order for the bell to face out ...

Re: Do you play Eb tuba?
EEb is the default on this side of the pond, mainly for historical reasons but they are also a good all rounder. I've rarely if ever felt the need to "go large" in either band or orchestral stuff done to date. A lot of the thing about tuba selection is cultural/ nationally focused....
