Re: Taylor Music Econo Refurbs

That HoJo is sweet looking! Budget if flexible, really trying to keep it under 5000, but depends on the horn. Eliminating Chinese takes out a lot of contenders. Even though in my previous life I played rotors I really want pistons now for the easier maintenance. Taylor web site says “Econo Overhaul. ...

Re: Taylor Music Econo Refurbs

I wasn’t talking about just taking out a few dents. If that horn were mine I would want to do the complete overhaul, with new lacquer and all. That’s just me. I like pretty.

Am I correct that the Reynolds is just a re- branded Olds?

Re: Taylor Music Econo Refurbs

I am located in NW PA, Erie area you could say. I would be willing to drive to Pittsburgh PA, Cleveland OH, or western NY state for the right horn. Maybe even a little further. That 450 dollar Holton 103 would need probably 1500-2000 dollars of work to bring it up to snuff. To me that would make the ...

Taylor Music Econo Refurbs

Hello again! Trying to expand my choices for a “new” horn. In my searches I stumbled across the Taylor Music web site. I did do a forum search and only could find one person who had bought a Sousaphone from them. He seemed happy. Anyone care to share an opinion about their “econo overhaul” inst ...

Re: King 1135 for adults?

NOW we are getting somewhere! I apologize if I took bloke’s post the wrong way. Thinner skin in my old age I guess. As a newbie and him an old timer I should have cut him some slack. I REALLY appreciate the hints on tuning a 3 valve instrument too. Makes great sense! I used 4 valves during most of m ...

Re: King 1135 for adults?

The Big Ben-I belong to several other forums pertaining to several different instruments I play, and in all of those the advice flows very freely when someone asks a question with many replies. That of course did not happen here in this forum. I am no newbie to music forums and so of course I know ...

Re: King 1135 for adults?

Thank you Three Valves. I want to go with small horn three valves to keep size and especially weight down. I think I could cover all I want to do at my age and stage. It’s funny how many players sing the praises of the late lamented Yamaha 103. That horn only had 3 valves but was very well respected. ...

Re: King 1135 for adults?

I have to say, I turned to this forum looking for some expert advice and so far I am not impressed. One legit answer and one snarky one that didn’t address my question at all. I was hoping for more here.

King 1135 for adults?

The Conn-Selmer web site lists the King 1135 as being “designed for young students” and having the leadpipe “appropriately placed”. Any thoughts on using this horn for a basically normal sized adult looking for a smaller, lighter horn? Would said adult find the proportions and leadpipe placement diff ...
