Re: Not today
In my world, "lowballers" and "poor mouthers" are what drove me out of my small business after only a year. You simply can't make an agreement, even one that is in writing and signed by both parties whereby some of these losers feel compelled to treat you and your business as a s...

Re: Show us your Oom-pahs!!!
Lately, I've decided that I like the bell in this more down position, as it lines up better with the other bells in the trombone section. https://i.imgur.com/xS4RT7l.jpg I plan to build my own cimbasso in F (perhaps this summer) and I had intended to set the bell on the dingus so that it sits on my...

Re: 4th valve slide falling in
There doesn’t seem to be an air leak and the valves are vented… If your 4th valve is vented, then you do have an air leak, albeit on purpose. If an air leak occurs from the slide being worn… This is not specifically aimed at dsfinley but is for future players who Google this specific issue, or valv...

ooh... One of my favorites: a strap argument. The first rule about strap-fight club is that we don't talk about strap-fight club. Rick "forgot to mention that the Red Oxx absolutely, positively will NOT slip off my shoulder" Denney No argument, here. I pretty clearly stated th...

https://www.redoxx.com/claw-shoulder-strap-92008/p Their weight ratings ng only covers the strap itself. Why don’t the give the weight rating of the product as used (meaning with the stainless hardware? I have had terrible experiences using stainless to support any sort of weight. And that design o...

Re: Gig bag strap repair
Places that deal with stitching heavy stuff and have the knack for repairing stuff they are unfamiliar with would be a luggage repair shop, a boot and shoe repair place (or an actual cobbler if you have one in your area), and a saddler. In Texas I had an excellent saddler MAKE me a nice leather bag ...

That is probably not red rot. It is not in a normal area for dezincification to occur. I suspect the horn was poorly degreased prior to being shot with lacquer.

Re: Jinbao rotor caps: only if someone knows for sure, please
Mine were plated. This does not mean all of them are plated, though. You need to perform the old scratch test on the inside face, or maybe look carefully at the threading. The threads on one of mine were re-chased at the factory after having been plated. (They were probably too tight and out of spec...

If you end up not locating one, I have the next size up, the very slightly (1.5+mm) deeper N3. (Otherwise, all specs are identical). I use an N1S; the N3 came in a package trade deal, and I never use it.

Re: Mandy, Make Up Your Mind
I remember playing upright in a trio doing a brunch gig at a top-shelf restaurant/bar in NE Jackson. The owner of the restaurant was named Mandy, and she had divorced and remarried the same guy three times, a la George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin. At this jazz brunch, she announce that they were (...

@The Brute Squad — Were you checking to see if they are what I am looking for in order to sell them to me, or just to confirm they came on DS tubas?

Re: What is this Sanders Custom tuba?
Not a Piggy shape or wrap, though the outer dimensions seem to be close. I think it may be one of the very early Chinese-made "Sanders"-branded horns, and probably needs to be avoided, as the early ones I have worked on had the notorious pot metal water key and finger button castings and o...

We just go about business differently. I would give the guy $30 for that junk. I'd give him $35 if he would remove all the trumpet valve stems for me and wash them in hot, soapy water. I would not even consider giving him $110 for it because I would likely never use half of it. I already have many h...

The snap-on folder pouch is normally bag-colored. I had to request that it be black. All of mine are black and I interchange them from time to time, so all of them being black simplifies things for me in this regard.

It is a complete bag. It comes with a snap-on music pouch, a padded zipper pouch that goes in the compartment on the back of the bag, and a nice, leather mouthpiece pouch/holster. Are you talking about a messenger bag-type shoulder strap? Not the backpack straps, right? My photos show the bag as Cro...
