Re: WTB: Willson or Kurath Original Huge Thumb Ring
I could do that, but it is a PITA and it would not look nearly so nice. It is a lead-filled NS tube bent over a mandrel in a spiral, then slit down one side, creating a bunch of separate loops that have offset ends (from the spiral). They are then bent to be almost joined at the ends, and then the ...

Re: ill-advised teaching strategies
When I am playing in the orchestra with the trombones (one me, three of them) I tend to articulate exactly as they do when I can, though that is not my default setting, so to speak. I will sometimes discuss it with them for the sake of clarity. However, when it really needs to sound like a naturally ...

I have one in my wallet. It has limitations, too, but works very well within those limitations. It is about three credit cards thick and has the same "face" dimensions.

Re: Didn't Get the Coronation Gig?
All the people were at a distance as we were always playing ceremonial music. Except for Mr. Nixon. He spoke to us and shook a bunch of hands. I guess he was still mending fences, even twelve years later. The Secret Service boys visited us each time to clear us for "Temporary Limited Presidential ...

Re: Didn't Get the Coronation Gig?
Wow, Wade------your Army Band experiences are astonishing. That's a record hard to beat. Tough duty. You must miss it. Or, not. Ace Best years of my life. That was a damned fine band, too. It was regularly ranked by the Office of the Chief of Army Bands as the #1 or #2 band in the (at that time) 36 ...

Re: WTT My Firstborn Child for Your Original Willson/Kurath Ginormous Thumb Ring
I genuinely like it. I generally dislike thumb rings because (from the factory) they generally are in a location that hurts my hand. And they are usually uncomfortable in some way. I like this one so much that I want to install one just like it on my Holton 345. __________________________ SOMEBODY ...

Re: An Enjoyable Quintet Program - TONIGHT! (05/04)
A bit more than a couple hours of driving from here -- but I was amused to see Benchsinger on the program because that is the warm-up piece for my quintet. We cannot, however, even approach playing the Arnold, and I would have loved to hear the entire thing. I don't suppose you recorded it? No ...

Both of them went very well. Our programming is always pretty popular. And our personalities work well with the crowd as we take turns introducing the pieces. And everyone seems to really like my arrangement of "Tico-Tico no Fubá" and my story about Donald Duck singing it in 1942.

My mistake. Mine is 7454, which is 1971. I was thinking it was 2454. D'OH! But 12XXX was in 1980, and that was the SN series of the posted horn. I'm batting .500, I guess.

Re: Dillon: vintage 5v Mirafone 186
OK OK, fine. ~50 year old Miraphone 186. Assuredly not "vintage." A 50-year-old one would have a serial number in the high 2,XXX to low 3,XXX range. Joe was talking about a horn in the 12,XXX range, which would have been made in the early- to middle-1980s, and to *us* would not be considered to be ...
