Re: tripod-base "display only" tuba stands

I have three old Eb horns sitting on cheap guitar stands. It has worked so far, but if they do fall over, it's no big deal - they are little more than decorations.

Re: Protec sousaphone gig bag *shrug*?

I'm pretty particular about protecting my instruments - except sousaphones. I don't use one much at all, but they stay in my workshop unprotected, and if I do use one, it goes in the bed of my truck. Shrug>

Re: FS: 1959 Alexander 163 CC 4 rotary valve tuba

I went through the dating thing with my first Alex. I was bought by my friend "very used" in 1969, he was told it was from 1917, Alexander said it was from the 1970s. Who knows unless you find the original owner - which Wade may have. I was just curious.

I'm curious how you dated it to 1959, since they didn't have serial numbers.

Re: FB (Columbus, OH): Mirafone 186 4v CC $2.5k

I had one of those at the school I taught at - I hated it. They are not supposed to be different except the trim, but it was heavy as a boat anchor and played like one.

Re: What make and model of 6/4 CC tuba should my parents buy for me for college?

I've heard a lot about Wessex and Eastman...(??) Aren't Eastmans the best? I read that on the internet. I mean, why else would they be named after a prestigious music school? Besides, they seem to be worth more used than they cost new. I know this because I see lots of people selling them saying ...

Re: Your sound... Discuss

We all have a unique sound because of how we leaned, our teeth, our oral cavity, our lung capacity, etc. I think a horn or mouthpiece can enhance or detract from it a little bit, but not much - hopefully we buy those things to make our playing easier, not different.
