Re: Is there a real advantage to TUBA stand?

I've used a K&M in the past, but usually only for when I'm playing in a tighter space (pit, rehearsal space too small for the group, etc).

Re: Need help identifying mirafone!!

Take this with a grain of salt (probably more) since it's been almost 20 years, but I've found Miraphone to be pretty responsive to these kinds of questions in the past. I bought my 181 from the original owner a year after they bought it. This was around the time they introduced the Firebird IIRC ...

Re: Cheapest tuba mute ever?

I played in the pit for a local production of Parade a few years back and just dropped a small hand towel down the bell. It got the job done (and I managed to not get it stuck even)

Re: A pet peeve of mine with publishers/engravers

There's something I played in my community orchestra within the past couple years (maybe The Tender Land?) that has one of those in the middle of the piece.

I'm admittedly not much of a counter anyway (past the initial reading), but that one was ludicrous.

Publishers be lazy.

Re: Musician's chairs?

I have used a 'drummers throne' for a number of years. No back rest might be an issue for some. Some companies make them with back rests (probably more accurately lumbar support). I used one for years until the padding wore out. I bought a knockoff Wenger-style chair a couple years ago to replace ...

Re: xmas gig confessions

Also... The 2nd half opened with a semi-cheesy Hanukkah medley...(The way it was written, it looks as if there's probably also a "band" version, so I strongly suspect that some of you in community bands have played it.) Not too far into it is - LOL - a tuba solo playing - of all things - the ...

@BuddyRogersMusic took over American distribution of Schlipf mutes a few years ago. Chris usually responds quickly to email/phone and should be able to answer your question.

I don't have any specific solos, but you can look into Don Butterfield, Bill Barber, and Howard Johnson.

I guarantee you it ain't me. - You will never find me there. - I don't put stuff on my cars that reveal anything personal. - All the other "tubajoe"s play enough better than me to brag about personal stuff on the backs of their cars. - If I had the WA vanity plate fee of $209.25, I'd use it to pay ...

Re: Tell me about... Buying it back

Same model or same exact instrument?

I did the former. Mostly serendipity since I wanted to downsize from my BMB (which was also a serendipitous find since I just happened to be looking for a CC when someone a couple hours away was selling it) and Dillon had one used they were selling.
