Re: Eastman 834 CC

It's funny to read an exact copy of a post I made on Reddit. Uncanny really. Same title, same text, everything. Guess I'm famous now?

Re: Air moving through the horn

I expect *waves arms* all of this from @bloke in addition to mentioning how Obama is the Antichrist,

but damn... the rest of you just went Ludacris Speed.

Honestly I thought this Shirt post was going to go literally nowhere with like a reply a day, but then it popped off cause some ...

Re: Air moving through the horn

Even the Germans on social media pull out their F instruments.

I've done video and audio posting on social media before, not here but on other sites. The feedback generally wasn't super helpful, and only once did a conversation start where I enjoyed the back and forth. As to the BBb question, I ...

Re: Air moving through the horn

To me, this statement reads as if you are saying a pedal note (including it's resultant overtones) is impossible to play if the room is too small, and I think this is thedancingsousa's understanding also.
You are correct!

Re: Air moving through the horn

If you're going to begin lumping me in with that crowd, I'm probably going to start ignoring you. Me pointing out that I can play a really low note in a tiny room without having to open up doors surely ruffled your feathers, I can see.

I went back and looked at that other thread and saw it was you ...

Re: Air moving through the horn

It is regrettable that the OP scoffs at these real, important, and demonstrable physics limitations in tuba playing.

Only thing I scoffed at was the idea that I couldn't play a pedal note in a small room. I laughed at that because it's a silly idea. Go off though! :bow2:

Re: Air moving through the horn

I think that depends on your haircut and whether or not you can shout directly at a manager.

Re: Air moving through the horn

One way to get shouted down (most anywhere) is to state the obvious.

Down is a weird direction to shout... which seems obvious.

Does it take more or less breath than ordinary shouting?

I guess i don't get it.

Down is easier than up because you're going with the direction of gravity ...

Air moving through the horn

Lots of discussion I remember seeing recently surrounding the ideas surrounding air moving through the horn. Standing waves and pedal notes not fitting in small rooms (actually laughed out loud when I read that one) and more. While I'm not here to argue about the idea that moving air is not the ...

Re: Does Anyone Still Practice the Full Bill Bell Routine?

I never thought about it much, but this sounds A LOT like what Morris had us doing at Tennessee Tech. Especially the legato and staccato part... I swear, I didn't play anything but legato scales for my first three weeks of lessons. Makes sense since he was a student of Bell.

Re: Who was your teacher?

In grade school I took lessons with a euphonium player and music teacher named Atticus Hensley, who probably had the most impact on me. I studied with Winston Morris at Tennessee tech in undergrad, and then Dennis Askew at UNCG in grad school. I've taken lessons here and there with others, but those ...

Meinl Weston Plastic Valve Guides

Is there any good, drop-in replacement for these? The ones on my 2250TL for the 3rd and 4th valves rotate out of alignment when I try to reinstall the valves after oiling unless I manage to align them perfectly, causing the valves to stick until I've pulled them out, made them vertical, and slid ...

Trial a set of maw valves

I really wish there was a way to trial a set of MAW valves. I know they aren't a magic bullet that will solve all problems, but I do wonder how they'd impact the low range and flexibility on my Eastman 836. I just don't want to blow 1250 if I end up not looking them out not thinking they make a ...
