Assuming you mean the Wife, absolutely! To be clear, she plays too, and is the one who's usually bringing home another well-loved horn to add to the 'collection'. I tend to hard-pass on anything that doesn't come with working valves...

Re: Valves for 1968 Conn 30(?)J
Thanks, I don't think there's any particular fascination with a BA Recording Bell Tuba here - we'll likely stick it in a stand and let it keep watch over the collection of other slightly more play-able relics up in the tuba room. Wife was willing to go to about $1500 to get it back into "playable ...

Re: Valves for 1968 Conn 30(?)J
Hmm.. .good question. As best as I can tell, the ports are round, not oval, so not short-action. (Judging by looking at the tubing on the outside of the casing, and sticking my finger in the casing... my borescope doesn't do right-angles...) I thought the 20J's were all short-action? Not really sure ...

Valves for 1968 Conn 30(?)J
Wife rescued this from an auction somewhere in Ohio. Guessing it did time in a school, based on the names scratched into the bell lacquer. Appears to be a 1968 (Lxxxxx s/n) 30J (3-valves, not short-action) We dropped it off at one of our local repair shops that's friendly to "project" horns. They ...

Re: POLL ADDED !!! TWO prototype Sellmansberger mouthpieces...PRODUCTION MODEL PICS: PAGE 2
Got to finally use the the SII on my Mack 210 the other night, and pleased that it's helped me out with some tuning issues I'd been having with other mouthpieces (as in, being a little flat on Bb even with main tuning slide all the way in). So far, happy! For me, plays 'easy' and I've had decent ...

I believe I just figured out that the tracking number (given to me by DHL) is a USPS tracking number. I entered the number into USPS tracking and it was actually updated to approx two hours ago... Pro tip: paste any tracking number into google and it will usually figure out what service it’s a ...

Re: Best way to record video and audio?
Logic implies that you’re on a Mac. If that’s a laptop or iMac with a webcam, and that quality is sufficient, you may have what you need. QuickTime can record as well as play back, or you can use iMovie. Both will let you select the XLR-USB audio interface as the audio source.

Re: fiberglass sousa cleaning
If all else fails, I had good luck painting my King with Rustoleum appliance enamel (bright white, of course). Both the 'outside" pebble/textured finish (body, back of the bell) and the smooth/shiny inside/front of the bell came out nicely, and has proven to be pretty durable.

Re: complete Tubby the Tuba 1947 claymation video
Looks like there's a decent-ish version up at the Internet Archive, as part of a larger collection of vintage animation.
Starts around the 10:22 mark. Should be able to d/l the file and cut out the part you want from there.

With Tile, you're dependent on being close enough to someone who happens to be using the Tile app to pick it up, compared to an AirTag that will get picked up and reported by pretty much every iPhone in use. I suspect putting one inside a brass faraday-ish cage isn't going to make it work any better ...

And that is how I stole cake from the Federal government. Don't Presidents/Vice-Presidents have to pay for their own (regular) food in their residences? (Meaning, other than state dinner official type things). Technically I think you stole from Dan Quayle. I have vague memories of a large chunk of ...

Re: Wolfe 3 Mouthpiece?
I saw one of those on eBay recently. My immediate thought was Chinese, but that was just an assumption. No idea about the name. Given some of the casting and plating flaws on what appears to be an otherwise new sample, it would not surprise me. Couple/few small pits on the interior that appear to ...

Wolfe 3 Mouthpiece?
We ended up with a mouthpiece stamped "WOLFE 3" in an action lot acquisition, and I've been unable to come up with any kind of reference on what it's comparable to. Kind of looks Helleberg-ish internally?
Guessing it's a private-label house brand kind of thing. Any clues?

Re: Has anyone used a "plastic welding" kit to reattach busted off sousaphone bell chunks?
In recent internet travels to learn more about the plastic King sousa that we've had for ~30 years now, I did see mention on one vendor's page that mentioned that the body was Fiberglass, while the bell was ABS.

If you haven't already heard them, and are looking for a laugh, search YouTube for "Buddy Rich Bus Tapes". They're are a hilarious and VERY NSFW profane collection of how Buddy addressed his band off-stage.
