Re: FS: 1959 Alexander 163 CC 4 rotary valve tuba
In my dotage I am having fun acquiring fine instruments and this one is intriguing, but it feels silly to even think about it because I cannot possibly get out of it what a pro could, and it seems a pro should have it. I wish some of you had the financial advantage I have of being a retired engineer ...

Re: Finale is Dead - You Must Switch to Dorico
I have no idea what any of you are talking about with this virtual machine stuff. Where can I find the course for dummies, and would it be easier (and less complicated) than learning Dorico?

Re: Finale is Dead - You Must Switch to Dorico
The problem was not with Dell but with Windows 11. Would not matter what the hardware is. Were I adept enough or young enough to desire to become adept enough, I'd likely go to Linux but I don't know if that solution would help Wade. If he gets a brand new PC with Win 11, he will also be forced to ...

Re: Finale is Dead - You Must Switch to Dorico
At least I'm going to be able to get Finale 27 IF I do the transfer to Dorico, but I'd have to not update this brand new machine, which has already updated itself once in just a few days of being online. People are maybe not screwed as badly but the screw is still there. And I am a very casual user ...

Re: Finale is Dead - You Must Switch to Dorico
I think what people are missing out of ignorance of Wade's situation is the basically impossible amount of NON-PAID work he will have to do because of the way MM pulled this off. MM also clearly has no concept of this and apparently views their program as a sophisticated kids' toy or something a ...

Re: Finale is Dead - You Must Switch to Dorico
(snip) I don't find Musescore to be to my taste.(snip) Why not? I find it easy to use and it does everything I need and you can't beat the price. I have only brought in ex-finale files and find it an incredible hassle especially getting a layout that looks sane. These are files I'm re-instrumenting ...

Re: Finale is Dead - You Must Switch to Dorico
I found a European vendor who has the software in a box still for sale (if they answer yes to my question.) I looked into Sibelius and they have their own game they are playing, in which you rent the software and must check in monthly online to keep using it. Musescore is not anything that a pro ...

Re: Finale is Dead - You Must Switch to Dorico
What bothers me the most is the after-the-fact notification of the unavailability. I just got my new Mac online last night and was planning to get the latest version of Finale today. No window of opportunity, and I don't find Musescore to be to my taste. Not only that but even to use the substitute ...

I am not going to wear suspenders but am alternating between my two smallest pairs of pants with the heaviest underwear I own. Up to 91 pounds from the low of 78, but the hands are like trying to type wearing ski gloves.

Re: Bell diameter, flare, taper, etc.
Not really on topic but I always have wanted the opportunity to spend some time with a Vienna horn, the "horn sound of all horn sounds." I have the VIenna horns CD and compare it (and its cover) with the London Horn Sound CD. Different beasts. Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra or not ? https://www ...

Re: Lacquer stripping: results
I really don't feel like I can spend $50 to $150 for a Hanks belt to hold my pants up. Walmart had some actual solid leather ones, but - even though they are solid leather - they tend to warp. Prior to the inauguration, those were $4.50 and now they are $16. I hung it back up on the rack and walked ...

Re: fingering chart for CC 5v with a two whole step 5th?
Unconventional but I used that valve alone to avoid valve combinations. That made Ab and Eb single-valve notes.

Re: Bell diameter, flare, taper, etc.
But the software (?) looks interesting to me and I'd be interested in who wrote it, because that's where the knowledge came from, having had both a Lawson mouthpiece and bell make noticeable significant changes to my Schmid horn's sound, response, intonation, and slotting. Read the "about us" https ...

Re: "winning" a job
I had not seen this before and I have not laughed so hard in a very long time. This is why I don't go to the faculty concerts, or even most of the student concerts, at the local U. They are worshipping the wrong god, one of their own making.

Re: Bell diameter, flare, taper, etc.
"Anyway. I didnt want to discuss what horns are better. I just wanted some input about the specific effect of those details on bells." You have not yet learned that the OP has zero control over where the TFFJ takes the thread? But the software (?) looks interesting to me and I'd be interested in who ...

Re: NC FB: Mirphone 183 Eb 5V
Since I own both a 183 and a 283 == the differences in mine are that the 283 slots more easily, making it easier to play, plus it has easier intonation. However, my 183 is more accessible below-the-staff, and I did perfectly fine using the low Ab false tone, which is more open than the same note on ...

For that money someone can sit around and wait for a 283.
