Finished Eb
Greetings,
I haven't had the time to put together anything more than what you see here (you can look at TubeNet for the rest of the pics, but this will do for now).
I got my Eb project finished up. For those that don't know, it started life as a three-valved H.N. White King Eb I got on craigslist locally. I cut it to modern pitch (it was low), cleaned it up a bit, took some dents out, and played it for a while just like that. After a few years I decided it was a good enough horn (tone and pitch-wise) to become my next (and most ambitious) project.
I made a four-valve block from a Conn 12J and 15J, got a rotor from a Cerveny, and just over two years later, voila! a five-valve, front action Eb that sings beautifully and has a good amount of "guts" on the low end. I've used it at polka gigs and a brass quintet/wedding reception since finishing it and it's been great.

Re: Finished Eb
That is a terrific looking horn and just as important, it plays really well. Great Job!

Re: Finished Eb
Congratulations, Jordan! It looks good.
I probably won't get to hear it at our Capitol Tuba Christmas this year unless...well, you know.

Re: Finished Eb
Just this quick little clip I made while it only had the 4 pistons working (I hadn't make the linkage for the 5th valve yet). I wanted to get a recording of it in our brass quintet, but never did.

Congratulations, Jordan!
...that’s a great tuba.
Now, you can plan to finish that nice basement.

Re: Finished Eb
Haha, yes... we're working on that. We're finishing a bathroom that is adjacent to the room you see in the video. Bit by bit...

Re: Finished Eb
It's a Jupiter copy I got on Ebay. It works pretty well. I drilled out the hole a bit bigger and had to reshape (flatten) the curve on the back to fit it to the tube better.

Re: Finished Eb
I like seeing projects that take old tubas and make them really work!
I also like seeing E flat tubas since I have used one as my bass tuba for over 40 years (York Monster E flat).
Great Job!
