Re: Melhart 6/4 tuba
' looks like a private label next-gen BMB 6/4 Rusk/Holton-style 6/4 C, to me (yes, or no...??)

Re: Melhart 6/4 tuba
Bmb Tuba is like half.
I don't understand the 5th in the 4th valve tubing. It must be a cost saving measure because I've never seen anyone say they wanted that.

yeah...
You can forget 5-2-3 for low F♯...It's gotta be 2-4, and find something to pull.

Re: Melhart 6/4 tuba
Well, it's pretty.
And, the info says it's "probably the best playing 6/4 tuba on the market today", so there's that.

Re: Melhart 6/4 tuba
I'm still not clear if it's BBb or CC.
But really, I need to stop leering at all this 6/4 tuba obscenity. Not like this one was ever in contention, but ya know, we still like to look.

C
It sports the Rusk-style "hole" in the lower (yeah: and upper) part of the inner pair of bows.

Melhart 6/4 tuba
BMB copy . . . Right down to the bracing, ferrules, and dependent 5th valve.
The dependent valve is just like the stacked rotors in a bass trombone. You can’t utilize the 5th to lower the pitch until the 4th is engaged. It limits fingering possibilities, but creates less turbulence on the main airway and enables expansion in the bugle earlier, at least in theory.
They did get rid of the rubber band linkage on the 5th valve . . . Apparently it’s a $5000 upgrade. [emoji38]

Re: Melhart 6/4 tuba
Heading and product specs say CC tuba. Product description says BBb and CC. Tech specs says BBb.
Multiple personalities or pathetic proofreading?

Re: Melhart 6/4 tuba
If BMB is/was Jinbao-manufactured (yes or no..??),
this, likely, is as well (yes, or no...??)
Is - or is there not - a Jinbao policy whereby if an entity doesn’t order enough of a model that they agree to make exclusively for that entity, they then are allowed to offer that model to other importers and vendors...(??)
Was there somewhat of a consensus that the B-flat version was a better instrument?
Years ago, I was personally astonished when I discovered that the rubber band system was “the” system, and that I was not being shown a prototype.

Re: Melhart 6/4 tuba
Hey, @Bloke mentioned on another thread that he has a couple of 6/4 Holton BBb 345's in various states of repair. You may want to check with him to see if he could add a 5th where you want it, work his magic, and get you an ostensibly higher quality fine-playing BAT near your price range.
Just a thought.

Re: Melhart 6/4 tuba
Looks like this store in McAllen, TX has another proprietary line of tubas, the Adamson (son of Adams??!).

With Reverb they are listed as a 5-star store and preferred seller with quick shipping.
Have any of you Texans ever been there?

Re: Melhart 6/4 tuba
Nope, (although I have been to South Padre a couple times) McAllen is way far south Texas, in fact it's as far away from Dallas as Chicago is from Kansas city.
Yep, I'm Mark

Re: Melhart 6/4 tuba
So you'd probably have to switch horses a couple of times.
