ISO: Gig bags for Kurath F and Willson 3060

Post by AGuti95 »

Hi everyone,

I am looking for either advice or a used bag if someone has one that would fit either a Kurath F tuba or a Willson 3060 (Merlin). I refuse to give my business to Cronkhite, and I am a little skeptical about ordering through Messina, as his prices have increased, along with the fact that I have experienced multiple failures with the current bag I have for my Rudy 3/4.

I miss Donna Altieri and her business.

Thanks for looking!

Adrian

What's wrong with Cronkhite? They make the best bags available. Good luck finding something that'll fit better. I bought one for my 3200 F and it's been perfect. Just took a long time.

Kurath/Willson 3200 tubas are a weird size. Your problem will be, with stock bags, that it's too tall for most Eb or F bags from Miraphone or Meinl Weston, but the bell size is too small for most CC bags. You could try those Stencel bags, I suppose. IDK. Maybe the Hagen 494 is a similar size. You could try and find the Miraphone case for that.

The 3060 is pretty new. I think it's very close in overall height and bell size to the F tuba. 17" bell, 37" tall, yes? Another weird size.

Not considering Cronkhite will make your search much harder. I don't know if Willson even makes bags for their tubas. Could be worth reaching out to SE Shires on that inquiry.

Yeah, I am putting myself in a corner for sure. My issue with Cronkhite is how they treat their clients. I used them once and hated them. I ended up cancelling my order and going elsewhere. Stencl has gotten even more expensive than Cronkhite believe it or not (I was really disappointed when he had to raise his prices again). I was quoted for a nylon bag: 1,100 USD plus shipping, import, and tariffs, of course.

Yeah... I forgot Stencels are from overseas. Lucky us.

I'd suggest, if there's absolutely zero way you'll order from Cronkhite again, one of these things:

Consider the Miraphone 494 bag. It MAY fit the F, but will be tight around the bell.

Wait and find something used (good luck, unfortunately, being that they're both weirdly sized)

Reach out to Willson or SE Shires and see if they stock anything, or even make tuba bags.

Wessex..? Not my cup of tea, but they might have something that fits.

Adrian,

I don't know who quoted you that, but you can email me as our price is far less than that.
