This is the kind of helicon I've always wanted! I do like my Martin, but there's just something super cool about that stubby, wide-flare bell that just gets me.

Anybody wanna buy my Martin so I can buy this one? :teeth:

Does it require a bit or do you just plug the mouthpiece into the neck receiver?

Those are very cool. I think Tom H plays a modified version of one of these. I have a 1920s Holton which sounds really nice but has a few out of tune notes in the lower scale. I wonder if it has a solid scale compared to other vintage brands.

personal experience:

These play pretty well in-tune with themselves.

Some (??) of them tend to be high-pitch-ish, but those seem to (just) be able to be pulled out to standard pitch.

Otherwise, they might (??) be able to be shortened to F ~OR~ I found that one that was here could be ("just") pushed in to "E", which would be a great thing for playing in many types of "unplugged" stand-and-play popular/folk/ethnic music bands (which involve guitars/mandolins/banjos/etc.)

Unless I'm not remembering correctly, the bore size is .625" with these.

a plus: Visually, they're amazing, yes?

The pricing certainly seems attractive. I've sold a couple of them for more.

I'm seriously considering selling my Martin medium to buy this. Can anyone speak to how the playing characteristics compare between these two models? Are they going to be pretty similar? They are both about the same bore size. Would I essentially be doing it just for looks?

What does it weigh? Pictures of pistons? False tones (likely yes on that one.) Shipped from where?
And where would I get bit(s)? I'd need one for angle anyway.
