Recommendations for a Tuba Stand?

Hello all!

I just recently bought a Wessex "Luzern" 5/4 tuba. I work from home, and would like the idea of periodically taking breaks from work to practice. Ideally, having the tuba ready to play in my home office would be ideal. I've heard it's a no-no to put the tuba down on its bell, and floor space is such that I wouldn't want to lay it down lengthwise.

Any recommendations for some sort of tuba stand that would keep the tuba safely upright on the floor when not in use? Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Thanks for the recommendation. It is hard to tell from the picture how wide a stance those legs cover. DO you think the legs are wide enough to be stable on a medium pile carpet?

Yes. I just measured mine. The three legs are 19.5 inches apart.

If the carpet is heavily padded, you could put those cuppy things they make for couch and chair legs under it.

Thank you for all of that information. 19.5" is quite a large stance, should be fine even without cups.

I really like the K&M 14940 floor stands. They are sort of expensive, but very sturdy and I do not worry about a horn falling over in it. I do not at all regret buying one and would recommend it.

I have the Hercules stand, it's pretty stable. I'm thinking about getting a K&M for the Martin since the supports on the Hercules are smaller in diameter than its bows.

K & M, hands down.

Just don't lose the carriage bolt and knurled nut that holds the arms up - getting spare parts from them is not easy.

The K&Ms that hold the tuba upright on the floor are fine.

If the tuba is heavy, it has further to travel each time you pick it up. Sometimes you have to wrestle it out of there. (Depending on the wrap)

In the Hercules, you just lift or pop it back without a hassle.

My Mack version of the Luczern (T210) fit in there real snug and nice.

The K&M and Hercules both got a lot of good feedback here. In the end, I went with the Hercules because it was less expensive, and it seemed like it would be easier to get the tuba in and out of it. I figured I could swap it later if it didn't meet the task.

So far it seems to be doing handily, and is stable even on the carpet. Thanks everyone for your input!

Ok - these stands are great for resting the tuba (the K&M’s work well) when not playing but what about a decent stand/ rest for playing from a standing position? Straps and harnesses are fine for marching etc but what about standing stationary as some 5tets do?
