Olds Recording Model Trombone w/ F Attachment

Post by tylerferris1213 »

Hello everyone! I am selling an Olds trombone on behalf of a local school for their band program. There is some lacquer wear in the usual places, but the slide is great! This is a great trombone for a motivated high school player looking to get a trombone with an F attachment. Everything functions as it should. It comes with a worn, but protective case. I'm asking $599, but feel free to make me a reasonable offer! Thank you for looking. Feel free to email me at tylerferris1213@gmail.com.

Some of those Olds trombones had inner slides that were “duo-octagonal” as opposed to a cylinder with the intent being it would reduce friction.

Some call those "fluted slides". I played one on the Circus Vargas band for all of 77'. Ed

Other than the rotor body in the casing, these were completely fabricated of gold brass and nickel silver. Even with the later versions with less engraving, the engraving is pretty amazing.
I guess I would compare them to a King 3B, with a bit larger bell flair. This was the most expensive small shank mouthpiece trombone, in their standard line.
There were sister trumpet and cornet models.

The King 3B comparison is a good call, specifically the 3B with the F attachment.

A friend of mine in high school had one that was in pristine shape and it was a striking instrument to look at and was top notch build quality, better than the contemporary (late 1980s - early 1990s) Bach 36B and 42B.

His had the duo-octagonal/fluted slide, and that was a cool thing to see. It’s an ideal horn for someone playing 3rd or 4th (if playing those older charts where there are almost no notes below the staff) part in a jazz band.

I am pretty sure I can see that the inner tubes are fluted. Look closely. It was an interesting concept. I don't know if it made a difference in practice.

I have owned a few Recordings. Nice horns! Top of the line Olds. Looked best and played best.
