WTB: King 5-Valve Double-Bell Euphonium
Looking to buy a King 5-valve double-bell euphonium (preferably in silver, and gold flushes would be on the wish list...but by no means a deal breaker). Tall order and hard to find, but figured it's worth a shot. I have a 4-valve lacquer horn currently, and really dig it. Used to own a Conn 5-valve about 15 years ago...satin silver, polished braces, and a gold flush...just didn't like how it played. King gives a litle bit of a "sweeter" sound.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I apologize for it not being silver plate, but here is a King double bell (bell front) in San Francisco area. I have no connection to the sale, but when I saw your WTB I though ‘now where did I see one of those recently?’ That’s one bad a$$ case!

I saw this and got excited, but they have a Conn, not a king

How comfortable is that 5th button to operate on those?
I've always wondered if a thumb trigger would have been a better idea...

I remember that Bob used to have at least two or three of them in his basement...ParLawGod wrote:Not too bad on the Conn I used to have - played it as a 4+1.
Are those gone and/or maybe a big raggedy...??
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
another question (to bump your thread)...
Did anyone ever shorten the main slide on that Conn BB-flat helicon, so that that loop-the-loop neck - that I made for it - would play it at pitch?

Bob has at least one left that I know of (a 4-valve King). He had a Conn that was stolen a few years back :(
I've actually never played his helicon, so I don't know the details. I think he was selling a helicon a few months back...maybe that was the one??

Re: WTB: King 5-Valve Double-Bell Euphonium
These horns sound absolutely great with a Wick Ultra SM6U baritone mouthpiece (same shank as the stock tenor trombone sized shank which King, Conn and everybody else use on American hybrid bari/euph instruments). The Wick Ultra SM6U is essentially a 6 1/2 AL with a deeper cup and a little different backbore. It helps the upper register be secure, the middle register sing, and the lower register resonate, not be grainy, and also helps with breath support control.
