WTB: Silver Miraphone 188 and 190

Post by kingrob76 »

I post this every 18-24 months and I figured it was about time to do so again.

Subject title says it all. Looking a silver 188 - while I would prefer an 80's era instrument with the long 5th, it's not necessary. I'm not looking for a reclamation project, but I might be interested in an excellent condition 80's era lacquer or bare brass instrument (which would perhaps later be plated).

While I'm also shopping at the "doesn't exist" end of the buffet, I'm also looking for a 190 CC.

Interlochen Center for the Arts has one...
I'm thinking they're not particularly enamored with it...

did you post this on the other forum back in 2013? I just went to go send this link to someone I know that owns the exact 188 you described, and I saw back in 2013 I sent her a tubenet link with the exact same title

I've posted this a few times for at least that long, but I don't recall seeing any emails (I went and checked the PMs there, too). When Tommy's 188 went on the market I was out of town at funeral or I would have moved heaven and earth to get that horn.

I don't think she acted on it. As far as I know she doesn't want to sell, but I sent her the link anyway, just in case

I also know a former owner of that tuba would like to have it back.

I would love my old 188 back too. Stumbled on a photo of it today, and it made me very homesick. :smilie6: I think it was 7 years ago this month that I sold it.

@LeMark, that's another neighbor 188 for you, I believe.

Hi! I’m the person Mark mentioned who has said tuba. We’re interested in selling it, but have some family things going on right now getting in the way so it might be a couple weeks. Send me a note and I can give you my email though.

Who wound up with Ben Pierce's goldbrass 190? He sold 5-6 years ago. I would have loved to have gotten it (and Tommy's 188, too).

Those 80's 188's were really good horns. I had one, and it was solid. Better in many ways than the current production. Of course, Miraphone would likely make you what you wanted if you had the dough, but the vintage ones, at least the 188's, are more desirable IMHO.

I sold my 188 several years ago. Big mistake. Fantastic horn.

So, are you back to looking for a silver one, after selling the gold brass?

I am never NOT on the lookout for one - the one I WANT is in CA and being used, and I am NOT first in line to get it when it becomes available.
