Re: Cool king tuba
I used one of those as my 'go to' Dixieland horn for about ten years. Good horns. I finally put a fourth piston on it and sold it a short time later.
Cutting to F and still having just three valves would be a pretty worthless horn, I think.

Re: Cool king tuba
Cutting is easy.
"Making something into something else that is useful" can be difficult, and is always tremendously time-consuming.
I didn't start out this post with the idea of offering something for sale...
...but if someone wants a ugly/beater 3-valve/front-action E-flat dixie-tuba, I have one of those 7/8th-size Reynolds E-flats hanging on a piece of wood in the barn...less money than this King, and the bell comes off.
I don't have time to deal with it, right now...so I would need to sell/ship it to someone a few weeks down the road...but I can use that wooden hook to hang up a hose or a stepladder...

Cut to F and still have a main tuning slide? Well, that is a totally different question.
Some old Yorks, Martins, and perhaps a King rotary valved CC

I was also thinking a reasonably sized Upright bell would loose you length.York-aholic wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 8:24 amEasy to cut to F? Yes, probably would be.LargeTuba wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 4:45 pm https://www.ebay.com/itm/203220023477

Re: Cool king tuba
yeah...probably one of those 3/4-size 14"-flare 'pipsqueak' 100-year-old E-flat tuba bells (cut off to fit the bottom bow) would drop WAY down lower.LargeTuba wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 9:39 amI was also thinking a reasonably sized Upright bell would loose you length.York-aholic wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 8:24 amEasy to cut to F?
