SOLD-Schiller CC Miraphone 186 copy

Post by Pakins51 »

I have a Nickel plated Schiller Miraphone 186 copy I’m looking to sell. It’s in pretty good condition for it being 5-6 years old. There’s some wear on the paddles and where your arms sit, but that’s about it. There are a few dents in the top bow where I’m guessing it’s hit chairs. All of the slides and valves work well aside from the valves being kinda loud. It comes with the original hard case that has wheels but is missing the strap to pull it with. I’d like to get $1,250. Let me know if you have any questions and I’m VERY open to offers! PM me your email for pictures!

Wasn't aware they plated them in Nickel, only silver. Can you confirm?

Jim also told me the ferrules were manufactured on Mars, no reason not to believe him. :smilie2: I do wonder, so there's 4 different finishing assembly lines going at JinBao (gold brass, yellow brass, silver plate and nickel plate)? Nickel was only exclusive to the Laabs experience or did all other distributors reject the nickel plated ones? Interesting.

Yeah, I'm certainly not making any claims for Laabs, just showing that they do list the nickel finish. Here's some more good reading from their website, describing this actual horn - "Schiller American Heritage BBb 5 Valve Rotary C Tuba Nickel Plated, Reclaiming the American Tuba Heritage."
I've never played a Schiller horn, but I do hope that their horn quality exceeds their proof-reading skills.
OH, and my apologies for side-tracking this thread. I do hope your tuba sells soon for the OP!

One more thing...
Yeah, I'm certainly not making any claims for Laabs, just showing that they do list the nickel finish.
Laabs also stencils "Made in Germany" on their bells and we know that is suspect. Either way, silver or nickel it might be an okay horn. Nothing says American Heritage like a tall bell rotary valve tuba.

I have seen JimLaabs tubas for sale (used) that were obviosly nickel rather then silver.

So I can't trust that my off-brand tuba that says "W. Germany" isn't really from Germany?

Silver was an option added after some pressure from some of the first importers to the US. Before that it was lacquer or nickel plate. Since adding the silver option they do not sell many nickel plated horns in the US market. The first two or three 410s I every saw were nickel plated. I thought they were a new St. Pete model until I looked at them more carefully. That was over 20 years ago. (1996 or so?) You can still get the nickel option, as evidenced by the availability through Laabs.

If it says "Schiller" you can't. :smilie4:
