These seem to be the most difficult tubas to come by, but I'm looking for an HN White BBb tuba. I would prefer a tuba built before WWII, but I will also take a look at any of the three or four valve varieties of the King 1240/1241.
Specs:
Top action or front action
Rotary preferred (like the 1291), but piston would be cool too
Three, four, five valves, doesn't matter
Finish really doesn't matter to me
Could just be the body and bell, without valves, as I can always find valves somewhere
Ideally, I'd be after a top action like the 1217/1218 (didn't Don Butterfield play one of these?)
Budget:
Less than $4000
Location:
Shipping to Scottsdale, AZ

Only one I know of currently is this one: https://austin.craigslist.org/msg/d/re ... 85448.html.
There's the 1291 that's been at BBC for a while, but it's >$4K.

Usually those pre-war ones had the MTS in the lead pipe no? That looks like it's a replacement lead pipe.hrender wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 1:40 pm Only one I know of currently is this one: https://austin.craigslist.org/msg/d/re ... 85448.html.

I had a 1215 previously and the main tuning slide was after the third valve.
Re: HN White BBb tuba
Serial number on the Austin horn puts it at 1936-7. SN given in the text of the ad doesn’t match the one in the pix.
I’m sure the folks at BBC would give you the straight scoop on the vintage of the 1291.

A slight change to the "wanted" ad - I found out I still have one bell that would be suitable for a removable bell on the 1240/1241, so I'm also on the lookout for a body and no bell King.
