Very nice looking tuba. Is that an original Martin upright bell?
Some old Yorks, Martins, and perhaps a King rotary valved CC

Thanks. I think its a Kanstul Bell. No markings on it...

Fantastic looking horn. Those pre war Martins are especially great. That upright bell looks taller than the other Kanstuls I've seen, and it doesn't have that King-like gold lacquer thst I usually see on them, but I suppose it still could be a special one-off.

The taper looks (to me) more like the bells Wessex made for the XL tuba, which do fit Martins. I can't describe why, but when I looked at the pictures, my brain thought Wessex...

However, that doesn't mean it isn't a Kanstul.

I don’t think Kanstul (or any other manufacturers) would make special one off bells as that would pretty much require another mandrel to be made. Want it at 19” diameter rather than 20”? Sure we can do that. Taller? Not so much.

That doesn’t take away from this Martin. Great looking horn, front action… Thinking about it myself.

Daniel: from past experience do you have a rough guess what it might cost to ship to the US?

The Wessex bells come unmarked. I have one on my Martin. I'd guess the bell in the pic is a Wessex.

That leadpipe looks like it's from something else too.

Wow, that’s really quite reasonable! That’s a great looking horn and has great potential.

Shipping by individuals and small shops from DE and central Europe to the US is usually much more reasonable than shipping within the US.

I have made purchases from Germany, and (unless I needed to play-test the instrument first) I would have no problem doing it again.

That's probably a Martin leadpipe. Martin tubas came with one bit like a souzy bit to help the player position the mouthpiece to the embouchure. Does this tuba have the bit?

That's what I mean, the leadpipe looks like it's been partially replaced with a standard receiver and upper portion of a normal leadpipe. If it were Martin original, I would suspect that it would have the screw receiver to insert the bits - but I don't see that.

Yeah, the sleeve midway through the leadpipe and the conventional receiver would lead me to believe the same. Doesn't mean it would have a negative affect on the horn, however.

That's a great price for a front-action Mammoth. I don't really want to start a collection, but if I did...

I bet someone would buy this tuba if you post a video of you playing it.

Or, maybe that's just me, wanting to hear you play this tuba!
