Re: King 1135 for adults?
I have never heard that “most of these student horns are made in China”. How would Conn-Selmer get away with marking the 1135 “USA”? Aren’t there laws that determine under what circumstances a product can be marked USA? Don’t made in China products have to be clearly marked as such? I would like someone to tell me they know for a fact that the King 1135 is made in China, if they have that particular knowledge. The pictures on the Conn-Selmer web site clearly state “made in USA”” right on the bell.

Maybe not the king, but for sure the Yamaha horns you were talking about in the other thread. All of Yamaha's student instruments have been Chinese for years

I knew the Yamaha student trumpets, clarinets, etc. are made in China now. But I thought all the tubas were still made in Japan. Every used one I’ve seen on Reverb and EBay has been marked “Made in Japan”. Surely the older horns that Taylor used for their econo overhauls would be made in Japan?

Again, the King 1135, 1140, and 2341, along with the Conn 5J all say “”Made in USA” on the bell.

I don't know how often they are purchased, but there is still a model 2340, as well, correct?

The newer style 2340 seems not to be made anymore, although it could be worth calling the Conn-Selmer to verify. All the on-line sellers I checked who still list it show it as out of stock. Taylor used to have a demo model of one, but it also is no longer listed. I know from speaking to the folks at Taylor a while ago that they have some stuff in storage that isn't listed on the website, so it might be worth calling them as well.
Back to the original request, Dillon Music has some small, used BBb horns for not too much money, including a MW 10 and an Amati ABB223. I don't know your size/price limit, but they have a couple of nice larger horns (i.e. a King and a Reynolds Recording bass and a Cerveny CBB781) as well. I checked, and the weight of the Cerveny is just under 20lbs, so it's not too bad.

@Dan Schultz,
What do you have knocking around the shop these days? Any 3/4 - 4/4 BBb tubas that are budget-friendly?

Re: King 1135 for adults?
I appreciate everyone’s help in finding me a good horn. I decided to buy a King 2341 from Quinn the Eskimo at a great price! I know, I said I wanted 3/4 3 valve, but this deal was just too good to pass up! See my post under “Dings, dents, demos, b stock” for more details!
