Vintage Conn BBb at BBC

Post by hrender »

Has anyone played the old Conn at Baltimore Brass? It's been there quite a while. It's an interesting horn given its age.

I called them about it a few months ago. Sounded like a nice horn, but not very large -- I think that's the big thing against it, that it's on the smaller side of medium.

it looks like the BBb equivalent to Harvey Phillips first Conn CC.

It reminds me of the 4v Gnagey I used to have, as least in size. I really liked that horn, but I had challenges supporting larger groups with it. That may have been due more to my limitations and not the horn's.

Let's be real with ourselves though -- it's still there because the price is too high. There are too many options for "a little more" and "a little less." Plus, it's got the stigma now of being hard to sell. Buy it and give it a shot, sure... but then you're the one stuck trying to sell it.

Same with the Scherzer CC there. I like it. Price is too high. And if BBC can't sell it in less than 10 years (I think they're close), then I've got no shot at it. As far as I'm concerned, that's part of "the permanent collection."

Apropos of nothing, i hope BBC puts the available helicons back on their site.

Always my favorite things to look through (i even got one, a while back, and they are most likely to lure me down that way again)

I saw a FB post recently and it did just that.

Unfortunately, the web page is not updated.
