far-nerz
...so (just curious) if you're playing in per-service, full-time, or in-between full-time/per-service orchestras, how many of you have encountered cancellation of foreign soloists/artists/headliners (due to their inability to either leave their country or to get into this one), with your orchestra then scrambling to replace them with domestic soloists/artists/headliners for those scheduled pops or masterworks programs?
me...??
As long as the gig isn't cancelled, I'm fine with it, and - most often - the replacement "stars" are at least as competent as those they replace.
(There's a Valentine's show - with which I'm involved - whereby the foreign headliners had to - suddenly be replaced...so - thus - the curiosity if this has happened with other orchestras.)
I'm glad, though that one pops concert outfit - in particular - is (probably) not going to be replaced. I'm scheduled to play an AFTER-Beatles fab-four tunes show (1970-and-later), later this year, and am glad - with that particular show - that the cover band is domestic, because that show has finally been rescheduled from the "two weeks to flatten the curve" , and - ("I just had to look...having read the book") - I recall that the tunes all look like a bunch of (probably: cimbasso) fun.
yeah...I guess this was another goofy "stream-of-conscientiousness" post...' sorry...

Re: far-nerz
They are cancelling everything here.
Go an hour or so away and life goes on.
Watching MECUM auctions in FL filmed earlier today and everyone is happy, smiling, and spending money hand over fist!!
It’s as if there are (at least) two Americas!!.
And I have to be stuck in Bizzarro America.

One of the local theaters here now requires proof of vacx, plus booster, plus no cloth masks (N95 or whatever only).

Re: far-nerz
It's time for the people of the world to stand up against those who are abusing - as well as those who intentionally created - this situation...
(NOT a political statement...but just a regular type of observation - regarding what happens when people don't stand up to bullies)
...particularly now as this stuff (as with most all other epidemics, over time) is becoming endemic and is mostly weakening in strength - symptomatically - to something like a "four-day cold".
Being broke, starving, and imprisoned in one's home is neither practical nor reasonable.
...but that wasn't the topic, DAMMIT !!!

We know a thing or two because we‘ve seen a thing or two.

Re: far-nerz
my main point...along with a sidebar that - sometimes/often - replacements end up being better than the originally-contracted headliners
