1891 Conn Sousa?

Post by Furguson11 »

In Champlin, a suburb of Minneapolis. $1500

1891 would make it the oldest Sousa ever I think : )

Dang, I drove right past there last weekend. Not interested in the tuba, but it does look neat.

If anyone feels compelled to correct them, serial number suggests it was made in 1925...

My running theory is that in haste they didn't count the number of digits in the serial number when comparing to the list (but at a glance, then they would think it was made in 1889?j

Hooray for Eb!

No. The style of the braces and ferrules is newer than that - wayyyy newer. And please do the basic math: JWPepper constructed the prototype in 1893. C.G. didn't start making souzys until 1898. I know, I'm preaching to the choir. But I don't want anyone to get duped. A nice souzy? Yes. Assuming it is playable and in good shape, reasonably priced. But definitely not what the seller claims it is.
