Miraphone 188 glamour shots
J Landress Brass in NYC... I think these photos are lovely and exemplify what I like about the form of the 188

Totally worthy of a glamour shot, back home after quintet rehearsal yesterday. Feeling very fortunate!

They changed the SN scheme a while back. I think they got up around 13,000 or 14,000 on the old system and then switched to this new system.

Re: Miraphone 188 glamour shots
Those are some of the most handsome rotary tubas, and those Nirschl 4/4-5/4 instruments are some of the most handsome piston tubas.

Re: Miraphone 188 glamour shots
I agree. The visual proportions on a 188 are just right. Muscular but not out of control big.
Some old Yorks, Martins, and perhaps a King rotary valved CC

Re: Miraphone 188 glamour shots
For me, they are one of the most visually appealing tubas in existence. And they play accordingly.

Re: Miraphone 188 glamour shots
That first picture is almost unbelievably sparkly. Is it in a room full of lights and other shiny things?

Re: Miraphone 188 glamour shots
The background is blurred. The tuba itself isn't even that crisp in the photo. Probably contributes to the effect...
I like the shape of the bell in this photo. Makes it seem a bit fatter than it usually appears.
Anyway. I like the 188, in case anyone forgot.

Re: Miraphone 188 glamour shots
I'm imagining there being a Christmas tree and green, red, blue, and white Christmas lights. Like the tuba is on display in the front window of an old-time department store at Christmas.

Re: Miraphone 188 glamour shots
I'm trying to figure out how bort2.0 feels about the 188.
Here's a picture of the inside, with seams down the bell and through the bottom bow.

Is it glamorous to hang out with the fiber artists?

Re: Miraphone 188 glamour shots
Especially the sheet-metal bows, right?
I took mine to brass band rehearsal last night and it did really well on the Eb bass parts.

Re: Miraphone 188 glamour shots
To hurt you and the thread even more (and the eyes of the TFFJ), here is a 188 glamour shot (band photo) from 1987 when I was young and my 188 was new (that oh-so-desired vintage). And yes, self-deprication is a small price to pay to give Brett some Shirt about 188 tubas.

Naw, I can't afford all that.
Rudy is still in the shop.
That 188 is just eye candy.
