great vintage mirafone 186 cc SOLD!!!!!
Great 186 cc tuba in fantastic condition. From the 60s. Nice blowing and sounding horn, can push this one further without breaking up and the ones from the 70s and later. Comes with parts to convert the fifth valve to flat whole step. Also comes with parts to convert fifth valve from left-hand to right thumb. Easy to play in all registers with a phenomenal high register.
In Chicago. Shipping at buyers expense possible
$6,250

Re: great vintage mirafone 186 cc
This tuba is just as good as Bill's...subtly different-sound, just as easy to play in tune, (simply) not taken to the same surface finish level as Bill's and (thus) priced lower than Bill's.
It would be dumb to buy a brand-new one, (or even a $500 - $1000 lower-priced hydraulically-formed one) rather than this one.
You're not going to find half-century-old ones (like this) in this condition (particularly not offering this level of intonation alignment)...and the modern 5th valve length and r.h. conversion parts are included.
If someone's wanting a 186 C - and balking about this one, they're being dumb.
The bell wasn't very messed up, and - once smoothed out - I did NOT (as do so many others) buff the crap of it.
Additionally, the rotors are not-at-all worn.
Matt had to badger me for two years to sell this to him, because I really didn't feel like selling it.
If I was more of an really-fine-equipment-lover (and hadn't paid off a ton of doctor bills for a relative - which did a pretty good job of cleaning me out), I would have bought it back.
Matt did NOT put me up to posting this...I'm just getting sick and tired of seeing it NOT sold. Someone get smart, and just buy it...today.
He's only asking - price-wise - the equivalent of a commuter's year's worth of gas.

I have played this tuba, and I will also affirm that someone needs to buy it and play the heck out of it.

Tuba, please stop looking at @bort2.0.
Or
Bort, please buy this tuba. It would be quite useful for those situations where your RM is a bit too big.

I'd bite if I hadn't just got something else. Especially with the nice long 5th valve circuit.

Hey…no patches and nothing that has had the crap buffed out of it, nor any dubious repair work that needs to be redone,York-aholic wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 3:07 pm Tuba, please stop looking at @bort2.0.

It’s not dented anywhere. There are tiny bits of original lacquer stuck to it in remote places.

Re: great vintage mirafone 186 cc
After someone finishes negotiating with the seller on the price and takes delivery of it, they will probably spend less money than most people end up having to spend on Christmas to buy a mountain of worthless crap for their spoiled brats…
… and if Miraphone still used the manufacturing techniques today that they used to make that instrument, the new price on this model would be astronomical.

Re: great vintage mirafone 186 cc SOLD!!!!!
Congratulations to Matt for being able to move on to whatever it is that is currently tickling his fancy, and congratulations to the new owner, who will be very happy with this tuba.
Matt only buys excellent horns. As he moves around between tubas of varying models/styles he ends up selling some outstanding instruments on a semi-regular basis. So if you see him selling a tuba you can rest assured that it will be 1.) an excellent example of that model and 2.) a transaction that is simple and safe.
