Cool stuff! Wish this existed when I was out there.
Have fun, tell Pat I say hi -- he and I went to college together.

No, we had our own concert yesterday. Maybe next year.Three Valves wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 10:41 am

The Columbia (MD) Concert Band started this back in 2013. AFAIK it was a brand-new idea back then- no one else had tried it. I've made it every year.
Basically, you have people send in audition recordings, choose some more-challenging-than-usual repertoire, have everyone learn their parts prior to the concert weekend and get one of the best conductors in the area to direct it. We sort of felt our way through it that first year, but the concert was a resounding success, and it became a tradition. If you want, check out their YouTuba channel:

Pat was a bass clarinet player when I met him. Actually, bass clarinet and all the other weirdo big funny looking clarinets. He started tuba when he joined the marching band. I'm happy to see that he stuck with it. Even if he does owe you money.

You have no expertise, no standing to make such a determination.

Re: Maryland All-State Community Band Concert- July 31
Hey Frank, is there a place where I can see the full roster for the group? I'm curious what other people I might know who are playing there.
Side note -- American Overture for Band is a very fun piece with a great French Horn section. I played this when I went on a band tour in Austria, and it went at a blazing tempo. I was the tuba section.
