live Assuntos Dukes of Dixieland

Post by bloke »

He didn’t die until three years later, but I haven’t personally seen that many live video recordings of Fred playing the trombone with this band as late as this recording was made, which was 1963.

Hey Joe, thank you for posting that video. It was great to see my Grandfather and Uncles playing up a swinging storm. I didn't realized Jimmy Dean was that tall. I'm surprised that Papa Jac didn't knock him out when he grabbed his horn.

Thank you again Joe for the post!!!

I only viewed this on my phone, but I was sort of under the impression that both Jac and Fred played Olds Super trombones, and I’m sort of trying interpreting the video as Jac playing a King...??

That does look like a King counter weight. Maybe that's why Papa didn't mind Jimmy grabbing the horn he was playing. As far back as I could remember Papa played Gibson banjos and Olds trombones. I remember on one of his visits to L.A. back in the early 70's he needed a horn and we went to a local music store and picked up a Olds trombone. Thank you again Joe for posting this great video.
