SOLD the Bessophone Thanks.
OK, $2500 includes shipping CONUS.
Yes,
The time has come, the Walrus said,
To talk of many things:
Of shoes — and ships — and sealing-wax —
Of cabbages — and kings —
And why the sea is boiling hot —
And whether pigs have wings.
It is time to sell the Bessophone. You can read about it here:

My tech has gone completely through the tuba, taking out dents, taking the rotors out and making sure everything is top notch, refreshing bumpers, etc. No, it is not the prettiest tuba, but it plays solid. But I am playing my new Jupiter JTU1110 now, and this tuba needs to be played. Pix taken in the last few days before the original posting of this thread attached. Tuba Exchange gig bag included. Let me know if you want pix from a different angle. Thanks.

Re: It Is Time to Sell the Bessophone - Lower Price - $2,500
Price now $2,500.00 I still do not want to ship, but I will. With inflation, cost of shipping has skyrocketed. If you want to ship, please add $300. Thanks.

Re: It Is Time to Sell the Bessophone - Lower Price $2,500 Includes Shipping CONUS
Okay, so over the years I have read your writings about this horn and its playing characteristics. If I have it right, the only thing *different* about it is that it has a Besson bell that is a couple of inches shorter than the original, necessitating the main slide to be pulled farther than with the stock bell. You have a Tinker-built extended MTS that solves that along with smoothing out a few Miraphone pitch oddities. The playing (sound, response) is as good as or better as this horn can be pushed pretty hard. An extended cup "Imperial" blokepiece is the magic bullet to happy Bessophone tooting.
Note that these bells are highly regarded, and 1971 was a particularly good year to pick up a new 186. (I have two from 1971 and both are excellent tubas.)
This is a very fair price for what seems to be a very good musical instrument.
SOMEONE BUY THIS TUBA AND GIVE IT A GOOD HOME. IT'S A PLAYER! IT'S PRICED TO MOVE!
Don't be gun-shy about horns that have been cobbled together. The good ones are good. The great ones are great. And the stinkers stink. This one does not stink — at all.
By all accounts, this is a well-executed conversion. Please remember that many professionals own and use Frankentubas as a part of their "stable" of instruments. ALL of my horns are like this. ALL of my horns play great. How can you go wrong at this price, and how can you turn down a chance to meet one of our longtime stalwart community members? Make the drive, have some lunch, make a new friend, and BUY THIS TUBA.
[EDIT: Now it includes shipping in the price if you are within the CONUS. BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT!]
That is all.
Elephant out.
BUMP!

I believe this would be an excellent horn for a local (Northern Colorado) student, and like Wade also pointed out price seems more than fair. I'd rather she got a tuba like this one than a brand new shiny something for the same amount of coin. I'll go ahead and send you an DM, maybe can work something out!

Excellent! May the new owner get as much pleasure playing this interesting tuba as you did. This is a win-win in my book!

Re: SOLD the Bessophone Thanks.
Thanks. The purchaser came to my home to try it out, taking time out from his family vacation in Branson. He was really pleased, just as much as I am pleased at getting a B&H Sov late 70's 921 cornet in partial trade. Being a euph doubler, I recommended a Bach 22 mouthpiece for him, and loaned him mine. He sounded so good on it, I sent it along with him.the elephant wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 7:43 pm Excellent! May the new owner get as much pleasure playing this interesting tuba as you did.
