A new-condition case (after asking extremely specific questions regarding its dimensions) was totally misrepresented to me.
That having been said, the acquisition price was low, and I managed to have a very kind friend pick it up and deliver it to me.
(This is actually a small 3/4 case, vs. represented as a small 4/4 case.)
I'm on the front end of building a B-flat (regular bass trombone - nine-feet bugle) "cimbasso" (yet, with ALSO a regularly playing slide on board...and regular F-attachment in the bell section - to only be used in conjunction with the playing slide).
COULD I build a case for it slightly smaller than this small tuba case?
- possibly
WOULD a custom-built case be much smaller?
- I doubt it.
WOULD it take far more time to build a case than to adapt this case?
- undoubtedly
A center divider (to keep the bell section and valve section apart and protected from each other) could also feature a slot to accept/store the auxiliary playing slide.
The "bottom bow" area could be used to store the (likely: detachable) curved mouthpipe, as well as the (likely: detachable) curved connector to the bell section, as well as bass trombone mutes, mouthpieces, oil, and any nerdy/unneeded/weight-adding clutter.

Very nice work! I'm sorry the case wasn't what you expected.
Will the cimbasso be 4 or 5 valves when finished?

six (4+2)
I’ve done nothing to the case other than lay those parts in there to see how they might eventually fit.

Unless of course this case would fit a 17" by 32" 4+1 Eb tuba (Martin Renowned), in which case (pun intended) I might know a guy...
The "Whatchamacallit" looks to have a good start by way of good parts!

Some old Yorks, Martins, and perhaps a King rotary valved CC

Wouldn’t shipping cost a large percentage of the value of a nice smallish case ?York-aholic wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 5:36 pm Unless of course this case would fit a 17" by 32" 4+1 Eb tuba (Martin Renowned), in which case (pun intended) I might know a guy...

It is in new condition, but I just don’t know if there’s a retail demand for these - other than wealthy gov’t school systems - that don’t care what they pay for stuff…(??)

I think my bass bone already has enough valves. Maybe one more than enough, even.
Leave it to you to do something this weird AND cool though.
