That having been said, the acquisition price was low, and I managed to have a very kind friend pick it up and deliver it to me.
(This is actually a small 3/4 case, vs. represented as a small 4/4 case.)
I'm on the front end of building a B-flat (regular bass trombone - nine-feet bugle) "cimbasso" (yet, with ALSO a regularly playing slide on board...and regular F-attachment in the bell section - to only be used in conjunction with the playing slide).
COULD I build a case for it slightly smaller than this small tuba case?

WOULD a custom-built case be much smaller?
- I doubt it.
WOULD it take far more time to build a case than to adapt this case?

A center divider (to keep the bell section and valve section apart and protected from each other) could also feature a slot to accept/store the auxiliary playing slide.
The "bottom bow" area could be used to store the (likely: detachable) curved mouthpipe, as well as the (likely: detachable) curved connector to the bell section, as well as bass trombone mutes, mouthpieces, oil, and any nerdy/unneeded/weight-adding clutter.
